OK, then I'll run wire thru all orifices, rinse out all debris, reassemble and hope that all is better.

Is not having the reed valve crap on the side of the air cleaner OK? Is it an emissions only deal?

AS far as I can see yours and mine are doing the same exact thing. I changed the coil and distributer and it didn't help. That emmisions stuff on the breather shouldn't matter. I had mine off for a long time and it stayed the same. ( gets better, them worse)(whenever it feels like it)( I had to park mine for the winter because I didn't dare drive it)

yes it is emissions only, and since you removed your cat guts, there's no need for the A.I.R system.

Intermittent stalling was the symptom when my ignition module was deteriorating. Finally stopped altogether. I'd take yours out and get it tested at an auto parts store. Also look at www.ncf.ca/~ag384/Cars.htm for my writeup on research and replacing the ICM on my carb'd '89 model.
          Good luck.

Ah, sorry about that, the software stops displaying at the end of each page so I only read page one before posting that useless advice.
I've now read all four pages of messages and can see switching distributors has been tried.

I've never been able to find a good written description of how feedback carburetors work. I've had the Haynes emissions controls manual and a couple of auto engineering texts out of the public library. There used to be the odd question on then in the rec.autos.tech newsgroup and they usually went unanswered.

I don't think rpickle has been able to changed distributers. Just Me.

Yep, changed 'er out last weekend. When I originally replaced the cap/rotor, one of the hold-down bolts twisted off. So the "new" dizzy fixed that issue.

I haven't said anything because festyboy didn't want extra talk going on, but a real good place to start is testing vacuum with a vacuum gauge. It will take alot of this guessing out of the equation. If you already tried it and I missed it I am sorry.

Your right, the vacumm needs to be understood and a pressure gauge is what I need to get. Thanks, I'll check Walmart out next wednsday(payday) and get one.

Tom, something tells me that wally world won't have what you need.... try pep-boys or autozone or o'riely's or advanced, you know, AUTO parts stores. not "everything under the sun because we hire immigrant workers and illegal aliens" stores. better yet, if you have a harbor freight near you or NAPA, they'll have it for sure.

It's starting to look like were at a dead end again. The one thing that has been wrong with your car all along is still wrong and unfound and the one thing that is wrong with my car is still wrong and unfound. This trial and error gets expensive. You would think this could be gotten to the bottom of. Somebody on this planet earth could point each of us straight to the one thing that is causing this. Finding that one person is another matter. and then getting him to take the time and effort necessary to help us is still another matter.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is frustrating, to say the least... I have my carb in several pieces and not very anxious to get it back together..... But, if this is ever to get fixed, I'd better continue on with it. I would love to be able to try/borrow a known good carb. That would eliminate a huge portion for me. If I know that the carb is junk, I wouldn't feel bad about plunking down money for a rebuilt one. To buy one, though, without knowing for sure would not be too wise at this point.

We'll get them fixed, just a matter of time and it appears luck.....

I've got a carb and manifold on my other Festiva. If I go that route I will remove the carb and manifold intact and put it on intact but I will bet money that the carb is not the problem. Carbs usually don't go back and forth from running real good to hardly running at all. Not usually. It's not impossible though. That ECG or whatever it is has me interested also that thing on the carb that keeps it from overloading when you let off the gas, that interests me too. It looks like Festyboy crapped out on us after all that big talk.
