  • Park brake cable availability or repair?

Park brake cable availability or repair? '88 has broken e cable at the rr wheel. Any luck with splicing in a patch or rebuilding the rear cable?

Rusted and broke at the bend closest to the brake actuator.

You can sometimes get them from e-bay...or someone on here. Or you could go to a JY and pull one off. I would not splice it.

There have been reports in this forum of people splicing brake cable by swaging. Swaging is where the ends of wire cables are stuck into a two hole connector and pressed to hold. It's common among sailboat owners because wire cable is used to hold up the masts. People have pressed the connectors onto the cables in a vice but it's better to do it with a tool called a "swager". Yacht clubs have them. I've tried it in a vice and had them come apart later. You might have better luck. Wire cable and connectors can usually be found at hardware stores and at yachting stores where they are undoubtably more expensive. I'd say stainless steel is preferable to galvanized.

I was able to buy a replacement brake cable for my Festiva some years ago from Ford for $130 Canadian. I'm pretty sure it was stainless.
