  • MY NEW FESTIVAS SHIFT KNOB IS STUCK! HELP !

    Hey all,
So i picked up my new automatic festiva on the weekend, all was going great with it, when all of a sudden, my stift knob seems to be stuck, the button, is really hard to push in, it takes a little jiggeling, and the stick wont move at all. Im thinking it might have somthing to do with the pin down the middle, but I dont have a clue. SOMEONE offer help please, I was thrilled with my buy, untill this happened. The haynes manuel says nothing about a stuck shift knob.

if you're located anywhere near any of us, i know someone will help you out (including me). what position is it stuck in? do youhear a 'click' when you press the brake before trying to shift? you'll need to have the radio off to hear it.

pull the shifter consol off the shifter, the plastic part that covers it. There should be only like 4 screws holding it on, that will give you a better idea if it is the brake release. Also are you holding your foot down on the brake when you push the button? Some cars require this.

There should be alittle "emergency release" tab that all automatics have that you can press and beable to shift out of neutral, not sure about a fesitva again, because I just bought my first Automatic one a week ago.

Hey hey thanks for the imout, my festiva is a 92, yes i push the brake in, no there is no clicking, and i havnt been able to find the emergency release, it is stuck in park, it was working fine, i waas doing som tests just on like my e-brake, and just starting it up, i turned the car off, put it back in park and put the e-brake on, next thing i knew the shifter was stuck, the button was harder to push in , you kinda have to wiggle it, and the rod wont slide down,. any more suggestions??

if there's no 'click', then your park lock out solenoid isnt working (lack of power, ground, or bad solenoid) check your fuses, all of them, and also the fuesable links in the engine bay (driver side on the shock tower)

Are you getting any electric power at all? If the battery becomes disconnected your shifter won't work. Check the battery and connections. You should be getting a buzzer and headlights, etc.

my 93 does it so keep pressing on the brake until you here a click or swooshing sound then when you get a chance take the plasic cover off the shifter and clean area good because it helped me. then go to junkyard and keep spare one or change it out.it takes a 10mm deep socket to get the bolts out.
