  • mpg problem

I was on my way to projectb6t's house and a large section of my exhaust came off my festiva (after the cat and before the muffler). I am gonna be putting a replacement on asap but until then this is my daily driver and I am getting horrible mpg. If somebody could chime in I would like to know why my mpg is being so noticabley affected by this. It still has the cat and some piping after, I could see if it fell off before the cat or something but jeeze I just went through $20 of gas in 2 days. Any info would be great, and if someone semi local has an exhaust I might be interested.[/img]

exhaust not giving enough backpressure, and EGO sensor seeing too much o2 in the exhust stream and telling carb to go rich to compensate (thinks engine is running lean. you can bandaid this by disconnecting the ROUND connector near the distro, this will hault any movement of the stepper motor that controls your a/f air bleed pins.

When I took my cat off and went to 2.25 " exhaust , with a free flow muffler , I noticed right away , no torque and mileage went way down , the cat does not provide much back pressure at all .

40.5 was the best I got with the BIG exhaust .

The stock B3 has to have back pressure to perform to it maximum potential

Yeah I agree packrat, I noticed alot larger of a difference than say 5-10 mpg however, Its like I am driving my old turbo saab again. Festy boy my car isn't carburated its fuel injected, is there still a trick I can do to hold me over until I get the exhaust fixed besides driving the speed limit haha?
