backplate for front discs?

do i really need it?....i mean its just a piece of flemsy metal, and i got a hub out of the junkyard and the plate is all twisted but the hub is in pretty good shape....should i just cut it off to prevent it from falling off while i'm driving???

When I had my slotted rotors pressed on I told the guy to leave out the backing plate for more cooling.
No problems thus far. The hub also looks alot cleaner, and easier to work with.

It just keeps little rocks and debrea from getting in there and jamming your brakes.

When I was putting new pads on the other day I noticed that my backing plates were rusty! I mean, like rust holes and everything, from being in the northeast most of it's life. Here in So Cal, no problems.
