  • #$%^*!! Mice! + Wiring Question?

Long story short: had to put Festiva project on back burner for a while. Bought new battery today to start it up again, no crank. Everything looks good, can push it and pop clutch will run fine. Must be starter, yank out new battery and tray to get to starter. WTF!?! Rodent has chewed through wiring harness that contains positive battery cable to starter. Insulation gone from + cable but two other wires in bundle chewed completely through.

:?: Question: Any ideas what the other wires in the bundle are? I'm hoping they are from the clutch switch for the starter and once spliced together, the starter will work again. Help!

Feel your pain. Popped the hood on mine after it sat in the barn for over a year, and the whole engine bay was nothing but rat's nests. Arrgg!!!

Fortunately for me, the only wires they chewed were to my fog lights. Five minute fix.

Yep, basically just finished and the car started right up. Glad I didn't buy a starter.

Next time you park it for awhile, put some moth balls under the hood in different spots mice will stay away.

When I went to get mine, it had been sitting under pine trees for almost two years. I started it up and all kinds of mice went running out from all over. It's been over a month and I'm STILL cleaning their crap out of this car. Luckily for me, they didn't chew up anything, but they must have built their nest in the heat and vent area. Every time I run the defrost, their crap is blown all over my interior!

What's the best way of cleaning this?

Creating wildlife habitat. Let Dick Chaney beat that. At a wrecker's yard last month I saw a robin's nest in a Ford pickup, rabbits under a chasis, and a white tailed doe.

Jack up your festiva on both ends take some metal pans and fill the bottom with oil take the jack place it in the middle of the oil covered pan and place it under the rocker of the jacked up vehicle. Set the vehicle on the jacks. Your Done!

I was SO hoping I didn't have to do that, But it's starting to seem like the thing to do. Anyone else have ANY other ideas? (besides flipping the car over and "Shaking Vigorously")
