I hope you filled that thing with water, so there's no room for lingering vapors.

Skilled labor at its best....what's your set up? It takes above average equipment and above average skill to hold that arc on and old gas tank....I'm really impressed.

It's not really too dangerous as long as you take the necessary precautions but I'm glad you video taped just in case. We wouldn't want to miss you blowing yourself up!

nice, Stefan! I've been doing that myself for years on tanks I can't find replacements for.

What is wrong with welding a gas tank? It's not like it is going to blow up!

I have a friend that blew himself into the sealing doing that a couple of months ago. He was getting ready to weld a tank and had cleaned it out a couple of times so he set it up on jackstands and ran a flame over the spout to insure that there where no vapors and well....... There was still vapors. He was standing on top of the tank and it blew him up into the garage door (which was open or up) and broke the door and he fell on the drill press which was 10 feet away. He had gone through all the procedures for welding on a gas tank but it wasnt enough. Lucky for him it was on juckstands because if he wasnt he probably wouldnt be here today. It shattered both his ankles and broke his arm when he hit the ground.
To me its not worth it to weld a tank when you can usually find one in a junk yard or somthing. Saving a few bucks cost him thousands and could have cost him his life.

Sorry didnt mean to put a damper on this post.

also, if your short on time after you removed the tank and don't want to vent it for a while, you can skunk it with a tube from your exhaust to the tank with the engine running, the inert exhaust gas will allow you to weld 8)
