  • Festiva dealer video!

Don't know if any of you have ever seen this, but its a dealer training video that Ford dealers used for the Festiva and Escort!!
    Notice a few things:
    * Hyundai is featured in the video; this is when they had a very small dealer network, bad cars, etc.. Interesting to see how far they've come!
    * Notice the sound the Festiva's door makes when he closes it. That must've been put in post-production, because no Festiva I've ever seen sounds that solid when you shut the door!!
    Anyway,,,,Enjoy!!

This video is from a Ford dealer training VHS titled "1989 Ford Competition Today", and features the 1989 Ford Escort and Festiva. These videos were only avai...

The problem with the Hyundai wasn't the car, it was the driver. My teacher worked for Hyundai back then, the people they sold that car to never changed the oil, etc, just because they absolutely didn't have the money for it. He got one when the Excel just came out and it ran for 200k.
    Current cars:

1993 Ford Festiva 5-Speed - Festiclese III - Cousin of the Banhammer - "The Jalopnik Car"
    1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)
    2002 Toyota Tundra - V6/Auto/2WD - The Tow Vehicle.

^^My Mom's got a 99 Elantra Wagon working on 250K miles, all original except the tranny finally gave out last fall. Swapped it out for a newer one, still going strong. Any car will be junk if it's treated wrong, and nearly any car can keep going and going if it's treated right.

It's amazing what they were saying about the importance of the small car "B" segment of the market back in '89. Then the Festiva was replaced by the Aspire in '94 and disappeared entirely by '98.

When did the huge SUV trend metasticize?

          What happened? How'd it happen?

          And now...

          LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!

          Karl
'93GL "Prettystiva" ticking B3 and 5 speed, backup DD; full swaps in spring!
          '91L "AquaMutt" my '91L; B6 swap/5 speed & Aspire brakes, DD/work car
'92L "Twinstiva" 5sp, salvage titled, waiting for repairs...
          '93GL "Luxstiva," '94 B6 engine & ATX; needs overhauled
'89L "Muttstiva," now a storage bin, future trailer project
