  • 60mph cross winds at highway speed

It was nasty yesterday driving home the cross winds were high and were doing a number on my hood - I was able to get some footage of it.

Wait so there was extra danger with the cross winds & such & you decide its a good idea to take a hand off the wheel & reduce the amount of attention paid to the road so you can show us your hood wobbling????

WTF MY hood nearly does that stock.

I know I'm being vindictive, but it probally has something to do with your funtop

HAHA I rarely drive with both hands anyway - and yes I thought it was interesting - I actually was tying to get the sound clip - the thing would bang really loud when the wind got to the max gusts
Besides when have you known me to be "the perfect driver" need I remind you of Ohiostiva Fall 07? lol

Mine did untill I replaced the rad suport bar - the wind would get up under the hood and the corners would vibrate on the subber stops =- but I was supprised that it was doing this because I didnt have any problems with it vibrating at 90 - the rubbers are so tight that I have to push the hood down to get the pins in

Ah that must be it - I never thought about it that way - the vortex created by the rippling canvas must have created a suction on the hood lol
Supprisingly the funtop was realitively quiet durring this I figgured I would get more noise from the wind hitting the side - but no issues there

^^Yup, but trevor, be glad your hood doesn't smack up and down at the cowl like mine does! so you'll get used to it flexing like that, to me they hold up a lot better then the FMS hood (well my FMS hood at least since its an early version)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

It did hit at the cowl originally untill I trimmed it but it doenst have the flex at the cowl like the original FMS hoods just at the front

Thats what i meant, my FMS hood flexes at the cowl like yours does at the front while driving down the road and can be loud at times

It was nerve racking driving home - but it rides just fine with out the nasty cross wind - it drove great this morning with minimal flex

Are you sure it was cross winds and not the fact you were riding in that semis draft?
Either way its not something Id like to see my hood doing either.

no it was cross winds it didnt if I was by a semi or not - the winds were blowing from the NW (from right to left in the shot)

I was driving in those same winds the other day too, but it wasnt my hood that was shaking, it was my whole car! Heading south on Hwy 55 going to work was like a carnival ride. One gust after the other and I could feel the whole car raise up and shove me a little side ways. That was a fun drive! Caught in the vortex between two storms. Big snow storm just to the north and southerly driving rain storm to the south. I think it was colliding above us here in central U.S. At least we did'nt get all that snow here too.

Well I wound up installing a taller rubber bumper where the pins come down and I mad a rubber stopper where the latch is to help keep the center from bouncing seems to work well - the only issue is the pins are harder to get in now because you have to push hard against the rubber to get them in
