  • Scooter Vs Trans Am

Got this in an email looks kinda fake. It takes big marbles to ride a scooter that fast if its real.

I can believe it. If the engine on that scooter can make approx 50 HP (quite possible), it's capable of running the quarter mile in the 11's at around 120 MPH.

It would take a really special kind of insane to ride it though.

Im sorry to inform you but it is impossible for that 50cc two-stroke to make 50hp. also the video says 23000 rpm. with 10 inch tires that makes top speed about 51mph... FAKE

I'm a 2 stroke tuner as a hobby. And its entirely possible. I've got some 86cc scooter kits that put out close to 40hp. They will rev 15k rpm. Then there's the custom range cvt transmissions and stroker cranks. Its possible. Just sayin

i also race karts, and ive seen some 125cc engines that have thousands invested in tuning, building and development and they make just over 40hp. it just aint ganna happen you show me a two stroke under 100 cc's that makes 50 hp and i will eat my words.

With a 5:1 gear ratio and a 10" tire, the engine would need to spin a little over 20,000 RPM to get to 120 MPH

A combined weight of 350 lbs would require 47 HP to achieve that speed at the end of the quarter.

this is true, my buddy has one in his BWS, fast as hell, easily does 90mph, mine on the other hand will only do 67 mph, but i have an 80cc stroker, with stock transmission, dr pulley clutch and straight cut gears.2.73:1 i think make for a fun ride!!

your right, i did my calcs wrong for the speed. i was using the stock gear ratio on go-peds fastest scooter as a reference as well. BUT that does not change the fact that you cannot make a two-stroke engine under 100cc make anywhere near 47HP! The Fastest and most extreme 100cc two stroke engines ever built (ICA engines) rev over 20000 rpm and make low 30HP Also they are known to explode within 20-30 mins of racing. out of 30-40 drivers in an ICA race only about 6-10 would finish the rest stuck there engines. My point is not that if you have a vehicle that weighs 350lbs and has 47 hp that it wont run the quarter in 11 seconds but that those engines CANNOT be made to put out anywhere near that HP also id really like to see one rev that high too, without proper cooling that thing would fry in an instant. not only that but IF you could build one with those specs (you cant) the $$$ it would take to remake every part of one of those engines to be beefy enough to withstand the hp and rpm without exploding would probably be upwards of $5000. Probably 10 thousand b/c of the development.

                      ^ you're right. I missed the 50cc part. ops:

I also forgot the specs of the engine I had in mind when I posted. That engine (it was in this -> http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php?topic=6830.0) displaces 125cc. The 50cc they talk about won't make 47 HP. Also, the redline of the 125 is only 13,000 RPM. You would need 3.23:1 gears (and some more torque too).

The 50cc would get you mid to low 14's at between 95 - 100MPH.

You're also right about the cost. It would take a buttload of cash to build one of those engines.

I think I'm right about one thing though. You have to be a special kind of crazy to ride something like that.

^ Exact specs? None that I could find.

It's based on an Aprillia engine.

Here's a description of the engine with a shot of a dyno graph. Note that the test starts at 10,000 RPM.

Also, check out that ultra-tiny turbo.

Don't know the exact price, but I read that it's extremely hard to tune and, if you mess up, the engine is instant junk. A new sleeve and head alone will run you $5,000

Similar engines have been run with nitrous oxide. The also have TINY little superchargers for these things too.
