  • Break line leak!

So here is the link to a video of my leaking issue.
As you can tell after watching the second video...the leak is not in the line I initially specified..
also I think the green puddle is the reaction between the fluid and my driveway, but what do I know..

please let me know your thoughts!

how much do you all suppose this will cost to fix?

it's probably beyond my fixing too right? Understanding the fact that I am a complete novice in this field. COMPLETE novice

        hard break line: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-izpqhZ8kp1m

3-5 bucks and you save your life, I think it's worth it. You don't even have to remove that bad hard line from under the rail. and please tell me you're NOT driving that car like that...no where, don't care how fast. it shouldn't be leaving the driveway IMO!

        some options:

        1. run an entire new line up from back to front to wherever that one goes... you do not have to re route it right there by the brakes as it's SUPER tight there...you can go over to the pass side then back over to the drivers side sort of "up and around"
        2. don't fix it and...well, there's a lot of things that could happen as a result of that.

I'd suggest looking for videos to give you some knowledge about working with brake lines. I looked around YouTube a bit. One guy there has a series of videos:
Making a custom steel brake line. Learn how to replace a truck's steel brake lines, brake line removal, and custom brake lines in this free car maintenance v...

You may be a novice, but if you're willing to learn to do it right, it's something you can do. I would also check the rest of the lines out to make sure you're not going to have problems in other sections of brake line. Use your eyes and hands. Make sure they're solid, and not rotting out on you.

yeah that's cool and all, but you don't have to go buying flare kits, hard line cutters, etc nor do you need to go cutting lines for an "oem fit look". JMHO

I'd honestly just get a rough estimate on the line and bend a few spots to take the excess. you could either get a couple feet shorter long hard line or spend a couple dollars more and get two lines to equal the total length you need instead of buying just one long 8 foot line. you will also have to get some "in-between" fittings if you go that route.

my previous owner threw in a new brake line at one point just like you need to do and did everything I've just told you. haven't had any issues nor do I care what it looks like or anything else. functionality is great and when you're learning, well...you can't go and tackle everything perfectly the first time. get a feel for what it takes to get some basics going and keep improving.

a few tools I find handy:
            a can of PB blaster
a 10mm brake line wrench (and if you start stripping them to get the lines out of the important places CUT the line and put a 6 point socket on the fitting and you should have no issues getting it off!!)
8mm wrench and/or socket for your bleeder valves
strong vice grips (a decent pair is kind of important. the small ones at harbor freight eventually break...lol)

if you start thinking of buying these separately and you have no other tools I'd recommend checking out harbor freight (cheap tools but lifetime warranty). I'm mostly a Craftsman guy myself but by no means would I spend 2-3 times more just for a name. Harbor freight coupons help too and I'll give you some if you need any (they're found in a lot of supercar / lifted truck / bike magazines!!) and with "free" subscriptions to stupid magazines I've saved a lot of money. lol.

ya I realized after I didn't link to the best video for this. He's got a bunch of videos that are all related to replacing brake lines that you can navigate to from that link though.

I think I've seen some of his stuff before and found it kind of odd to have a vid only for custom brake lines. he is a good help for a wide variety of issues and online research is AWESOME! use google, forums, private messaging, etc etc to your advantage (speaking to ozone, lol). Everyone here started somewhere and you'll do fine. I bugged the mess out of skeeter when I first got my festy. I was very lucky (and sort of unlucky) with my first rear beam but saught after lots of advice before attempting repairs, and during. lol.

do some research, keep in touch, ask questions because we're all here to help.

and tell me, are you driving the car? cuz if you are, once your master cylinder gets low enough that air gets in the line and you're just pushing air through that hole in the line you're really screwed!! just sayin
