The festiva would require so many upgrades to make it compliant, safety wise, airbags, ABS, traction control mandatory standard by 2012, plus all the electronic gizmos people want, and all though we like it's looks, it's not especially "modern" "hip" or "trendy"
and I don't have $5450
Owner of:
1991 Red Festiva L, 5 speed (Swagger Wagon)
In progress:
BP+G25MR swap, Kia rio axles hopefully.
If I could buy one brand spanking new, I'd FIND $5450!! Beg, borrow, steal or PRINT!
As for "all the upgrades," I'd suggest an "energy crisis waiver" that states you are an ADULT and understand the consequences of crashing into a Hummer H5400 Billion with 42" blingbling wheels and the Electronic Diamond Package with Instability Control and croco skin heated armrests.

You think Ford would bring it back now. I know they brought back the fiesta, but there is always room for affordable gas savers in todays market.
There is nothing to bring back!!! You cant sell a car like the festiva anymore, safety, emissions, exct. If they brought it back the only thing that would be same would be the name
I know we all love the Festiva, but for what it's worth, the new Fiesta is a pretty nice car. There are rumors of a turbo "ecoboost" version in the works too.
I am sure we could incorporate emissions and a airbag. As for all the extra electrical creature comforts, those can be just options. I know I would buy a bone stock car, cause you can always add aftermarket creature comforts. I am mainly talking about making a reliable car that is affordable for the middle class to buy new without going into debt.
Man should eat when he can for Man does not know when his last meal will be.
i bought a nissan versa 1.6 sedan in 2009. it came base model, crank windws, no abs, no stereo, no power locks, had power steering(electric). 5 speed, no traction control. was the best bang for the buck as a NEW car off the lot at 10500.
i put almost 45k on it in 18 months. and it gets 40-45mpg on highway at 70mph.
economy has kicked my rear, and basically everything i own is going away, and thats why i have a festiva.

lol there is alot more to modern standards than adding an airbag. There is a reason a smart car weighs more than a festiva

A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something.
Versa is awesome. 110hp. Relatively light at 2600lbs. Towed a small trailer and motorcycle fine.gets wicked mileage. Best at 46mpg highway. Never gave me a problem in 43k + miles. As for a new car in the base entry level, I would reccomend it to anyone. Now. The backseats don't fold on the base model, so that's a bit of an inconvenience. But other than that its great.
Getting picked up this week. And I'm happy to have the festiva so I'm at least mobile still
