  • Pulled my old trans -> Got a new one

    Well since my tranny is apparently blown, i have to replace it.

    Tonight i pulled it out.

    I made a support bar, got the idea from the ford manual.

    and.. out

    i cant believe how light it is i was working alone and i was scared that i wasnt gonna be able to budge it. that little thing weighs nothing!

          at this point it HOPE it is... because i got a new tranny sitting on the floor waiting for me to put it in.

          The old trans, the fluid was full of metal dust though so it was most likely toast.

                I'm running 20's on the outside and 30 in the middle for my fuseable links.

                stefan - Did you drop the crossmember to get that out? Any problems removing that?

                  Yea, i dropped the crossmember. It atchuley came out really easy. But it was probably removed by the PO at some point... because i noticed my old trans was marked by the local j/y... so it wasn't the original...
                  When i pulled the replacement at the jy i didnt remove it though, cause the 2nd bolt started spinning so i said forget that and i pulled it the unconventional way LOL. I already explaned it once in the repair forum, so ill just recopy

I got the first bolt out of the crossmember, then the second one started spinning, and it was raining and everything was muddy so i didnt feel like fighting with it underneath the car. So what i did was unbolted both tranny mounts, dropping it on the crossmember then i put my jack on the far left (pssgr) side of the oilpan and took off the pssgr side mount. then i started lowering the pssgr side, and as it lowered, i kept shoving it over to the drivers side. so i basically kept goin till it flipped right onto its side (belts on the ground, tranny in the air) then i just lifted the tranny off the block

                        stock is 15,25,15 you want to run as close as possible to that preferably at that because higher is not protecting the cuiruit the way it is designed

                              Overlord is correct,

                              TSB raised rating on center circuit to 35 Amps.
                              Don't remember if it also raised the outer ones.
                              I can not find a 35 so I, like stefan, run:
                              Green = 40 Amps
                              Pink = 30 Amps
                              Have been running in 2 festivas for 3-4 yrs and no issues.
                              Beats those da.....rn fusible links you can't tell when they go!

                              FB71, can we create a sticky with the TSB data somewhere?
