  • Some weekend projects

My MSD coil finally came in the mail. Got it installed and moved a few things around under the hood. Had to make a few brackets. I whent really overboard. I even welded the nuts on the back side of the plate for easy assembly 8) I also moved the ign module and the radio noise filter to the firewall.

Also, i gave up looking for a bracket in the j/y that would work for a hood strut so i just made one.

Its not pretty, but its just a prototype. Im going to make another one and make it look good& paint it. (also i didnt make this one long enough to use two screws. Maybe ill even go to my friends house and make it on the mill

On the hood end of the strut i just took out the top bolt on the hood hinge and tapped out the hole to the thread of the strut. it was very close.

The only problem i ran into was at first i used #12 self tapping screws and they stripped right out before it was tight... so i tried a rivet and it still dosent hold very firm.. not sure what im going to use to hold the bracket in. open to suggestions?

Aside from that im really happy with it. It dosent take the weight off the hood till its about 14" up. Unlike my friends car that has them factory... that thing kicks up soon as you unlock the hood catch

I also got my grille back on the car. Now i just need some of that adhesive to i can glue my mazda logo on

I also made some more progress on my power-windows. I got the pssgr side working almost perfect. I just gotta pick up some more wire so i can put in a switch on the drivers side to control the passenger window. 8)

you can catch a glimpse of my power lock actuators in those pix too 8)

so that was my weekend

looks clean! as for the #12 stripped out screws you could try "riv-nuts", they are like big "Pop rivets" with threads in them.
        it runs so sweet

That coil/igniton setup is fantastic. I'll think I'll have to steal that idea from you.

                  Thanks guys!

the brackets worked out great. the one the modules are mounted on is just 1&1/4" angle iron. i taped off the footprint of the modules before i painted it so they would be able to ground good. Then i just used 2 of the 4 holes that are already drilled in the firewall in that corner.

I was wondering if anyone was gonna notice the fuel filter! My factory bracket was long gone, so i got one out of an aspire and mounted it in in the most convenient place possible! just one 10mm bolt and the spring clamps and i can change it in a minute

Yup, noticed the fuel filter too. Good spot! Something else I noticed, well, two somethings I noticed. On the pass. side firewall there's black box, and on the driver's side, right beside the battery, there's another box. What are those things?

Looks like you're prepairing to install a tower brace.

                      Nice.

I am pretty sure da black box is cruise control.

                          Good work, Stefan!

Is the driver's side black box to do with the DRLs?

I knew if you took your time you would figure out those window regulators.
Why not mount your relays under the dash easy to get to when one goes out.
Oh forgot very nice job on all your work.
