  • *Updated* Tornado survivor killed a deer

    *Update*
So I'm driving home tonight and I slow down at the "crash site" and low and behold I see a chunk of black sticking up out of the grass by the guard rail. Theres no one on the road so I stop and investigate . . . its the remains of my grill with my Aussie emblem still attatched to the mangled mesh!

    *Original Post*
Ok for those that don't know I nailed a deer on the way home from work the 27th. Killed the motor and the deer on impact. The car is currently disabled and will not run, all coolant lines and radiator is busted. My spiffy custom grill is obliterated . . . I plan to go back and look for the Aussie emblem sat. as of right now the hood will not open so I have not looked further into the engine situation, but that night it would start and run for 30 seconds while I feathered the gas (all the while puking out anti-freeze). at this point it looks as if I can put it back on the road but I will only know after I get the hood open as to the extent of the damage. If I decide not to rebuild I will be completely stripping the whole car of all mods and useful undamaged parts.
I'm only posting three but there are more if you clink the link below.

and yes those are my marks on the pavement

It looks like it could be fixed. Did it damage the frame or something?

Good you didn't get hurt. It looks fixable. I hit one a over a month ago. Damage was similar but worse. My cars engine died on impact too. I looked at it when I got home and the wiring harness got cut where it goes through the top radiator bar. That may be something to look for. Good luck fixing or finding another.

yeah initially it looked worse cause I had milky water on the ground so I thought it got into the oil lines (it was dark)

looking at it in the light it does look repairable but I wont know till I get the hood open and the twisted metal apart I know from looking at it that I would have to weld in a new top crossover support this ones too mangled to straighten . . . I fly out to OK sun band am out there till the 22nd so the car will be sitting till the new year because I'm not getting depressed tearing it apart during Christmas.

I will be sure to check the harness on the back side of the crossover.

good you didn't get hurt though!
looks like mine when I hit the lifgate on a large truck, took out the VAF and mine had the same symptoms, cut the wiring to the VAF also. just soldered and shrink tubed the wires.
also welded in a new core support and part of the inner fender good as new. that was the first rebuild years ago. no frame damage either.
The inner fender was easy I just cut out a section from a donor and stiched it in with the wire feed welder. Measure twice weld once.
            it runs so sweet

more than likely, the tube connected to the VAF is partially disconnected, so the VAF doesn't get good airflow thru the door. Explains why it runs while feathering it, but not idle.

Had the exact same thing happen but on the driver's side. My damage was much worse, but I put it back together and the car ran fine.

Your car is definitely salvageable, although you may need hood pins...

look in my personal gallery. I hit a deer and it looked alot like that when I got it back. My car was even blue. Mine had a hole in the hood it was that bad. doing 65 and locked up the breaks at the last minute. The deer shot straight up when I hit it. I rebuilt the front end and then sold the car.
