^ I have seriously considered a corn stove , or a pellet stove .
I think the corn stove is more efficient , I would have the automatic auger feed too .

Ive got a couple of buddies who use them. I like that you can dump a five gallon bucket in the hopper and its good to go all day. Plus the residue comes out in a little briquette. Nearly zero clearance from the wall and a small flue. You could probably glean some corn fields after harvest and get a lot. Providing you know some farmers. Yeah the auto auger does it for me too. No stoking or reloading.

my concern with corn stoves is the potential rise in fuel cost. As ethanol becomes more popular, corn prices will go up. I have a few specialty sawmills around here I can get scrap hardwood from for free. While not as easy to operate as a corn or pellet stove, its certainly less expensive!

I think my buddy said his corn stove used about 4 gal a day. So if he needed to heat the house for 180days he would need 720 gals to get through the winter. There are 8 dry gallons in a bushel so he need 720/8 = 90 bushel for the winter. A high per bushel price for corn is $3. So $3 X 90 bushel =$270 winter heating bill. A farmer would probably sell it directly to you out of the field if you asked. Run it right out of the combine into your truck.
Average corn yield per acre in the US is 125-140 bushel per acre. So if you could grow an acre of corn and get at least 90 bushel per acre that would be enough for the winter maybe. I'm not a farmer so there is probably a fatal error in my logic. Your time expenditure, labor, seed cost, weather, deer, coons. Probably something.

My lowest power bill was more than $270.00 for 1 month , So $270.00 for 180 days is a BIG break .
It would not take long to pay for itself , maybe a 2 year payback .

Ive got a emergency quick install wood stove out in the shop for nights just like tonight when the ice threatens to knock the power out for an extended length of time.
Oh yeah , back to topic, Merry Christmas :!: :!: :santa:
