  • Not the best picture, but here's mod o' the week.

I can't believe it took me 3 hours to swap out my front bumper today. Whoever worked on the body of my Festy before I bought it did some real crap work that I had to deal with before installing the new bumper.

A few months ago I picked up a set of plain, non-painted bumper at the wreckers. They were faded as heck; pretty much a very light grey colour. I painted them using Duplicolor Bumper Black. The stuff works good!

    So, here's the before...

...and here's the after...oh yeah, I popped on the new grille, and painted those little things under the headlights too.

I'll get around to doing the rear bumper sometime in the next week.

Lookin good! 8) Wish you were closer. I really want to score some red GL bumpers for my white '89 to give it a two tone look. Is that a GL sport or did you add the sport interior?

I'm taking the car from a 93 GL Sport, to what appears to be an 88-89 base model, with a spoiler. I just like the look of the black bumpers more than the body coloured ones. Some body coloured ones, like Maxtiva's, look particularly good though.

I've got the sport interior that came with the car. Sometime in the next year or so I'll be doing some interior work, and the panels/seats will probably come up for sale. Keep your eyes open for that.

As for the black on the bottom of the body: That's something someone did before me. I don't think they took it far enough though, so I'll be extending the black up to the door moldings, to match the line of the bumpers. I've linked a couple of videos below of a Kia Pride that I think looks pretty cool.

Id like to have the red bumper covers, probably cost to much to ship though. Ive got extra black front and back bumper covers, we should have traded. Guess I could get mine painted.

I'd like to be able to ship the bumper covers to someone, but there are a few problems. First, the front bumper cover was kind of wrecked in the process of removal. Whoever worked on the car before I bought it really screwed things up, using the wrong kinds of fasteners, which meant I had to cut sections out to remove it. Second, one of the reasons I decided to replace them is that they were beat to hell. Under the paint they were cracked and bent.

That's the nice and simple round headlight swap. They are a standard, old school, off the shelf, 6024 sealed beam. The buckets are from a first generation VW Rabbit, and they are in turn welded to modified Festiva headlight backing plates.

Ian, that's a good idea. It'd be nice, now that there are several of us in town, to get them all together for a group shot.

BTW, sorry we haven't had lunch lately. I've been up to my eyeballs in work. My "boss" got canned, so I've taken on his work on top of mine. I hear I'll have some form of relief in the new year.
