Does that hitch have four bolts holes for the bumper and one for the spare tire pan ? Since most festiva rear bumper beams are prone to rust I don't think Id trust that set up. Do you have some instructions for installation ? I have an old hitch I think I could modify to work on a festiva with three bolts through the unibody and none through the bumper.

It is still stretch wrapped together .

It looks like 4 holes at the back and several at the front end of it , like a 1/4 moon shaped piece that has holes , the instructions are in the wrap ....
.. not sure what those are ??

But I did see the original invoice when it was ordered in 1994 , still taped to the bottom of it . I will make a scan of the instructions and post in a bit

That's the style of hitch I have on Luxstiva!

                        1. I pulled off the rear bumper, then the bumper cover.

                        2. Reinstalled the bumper to fit the hitch. Marked the four bumper holes underneath. Drilled the holes while still on the car.

                        3. Drilled more holes in the back face of the bumper and used a cold chisel to widen them. This was so I could get the nuts inside for the four bumper bolts coming up from the bottom.

                        4. Bolted on the hitch to the bumper. That allowed me to properly mark the four holes on the spare tire well. I drilled them through the holes of the hitch while it was still mounted.

                        5. Removed the bumper, with hitch attached. Trimmed some of the bottom plastic off the bumper cover and put it back on.

                        6. Finally installed the full bumper with hitch and put in the four bolts and nuts in the spare tire well. Tried to use shortest bolts that would work to limit intrusion into the well. Lined the well with padding to protect the spare.

Doug, let's see how closely my halfass job correlates with your "official instructions."

On the hitch it said "tongue weight, 100 pounds" and "pull weight, 1000 pounds." Or something like that.

I've "pulled" two bikes on a tip down bike rack!

No trailers yet, and I took the bike rack off for winter.
