yup, the 91-95 4.6's had valve seal issues. The plastic intakes used from 96-00 had cracking issues at the coolant crossover in the front. The fix for the crack was a new manifold with a cast aluminum crossover. Zero failures on those. If you had a 96-00, there was a recall to update the manifold at no charge. I did LOTS of manilfolds, but only a few valve stem seals.Jim DeAngelis

The manifold is simple to replace, especially when you do a few, huh Jim? lol..
Seriously, gas mileage was ALWAYS over 24 on my 94 and 96 Townies, and I got 26 on the highway in my last Vic.
I never had any valve seal problems out of my 92 Vic.... it had 159K on it when I sold it for a profit....
Nothing but good luck with mine...Have had 6 Festys... and counting...

yeah, it was only about 10% of total production each year that had valve seal issues.
As for the manifold, Ford paid 3.3 hours under the recall to replace it. I could do it in 0.4 hours... CORRECTLY. I made a weeks' worth of pay in 1 1/2 days when the local police would bring their cruisers in all at once!Jim DeAngelis

depends on the year. As of '98, the standard car got 3.08's, P71's (police cars) got 3.27's. In '04, the standards got 3.27's and P71's got 3.55
P71's and dual exhaust civilian cars had the same horsepower/torque until '04. In '04, P71's got a hp bump to 260 from 240, and got a 200A alt. I used to teach all of this for Ford to local and state law enforcement agencies, as well as the FBI garage in Quantico.Jim DeAngelis
