I am looking for some help evaluating Some Guns and accessories that I have to sell. Here is one example

The rest are here. Rifle, Shotgun, 2 revolvers, and a pistol. I know VERY little. I'm just looking for some advice. It is the first 2 pages only.

What a combo! A nice looking no doubt extremely collectable Colt M1911 and two what look like old school pot metal Clerke revolvers!

Don't get rid of that Colt. Wonder how long it's been in storage? Last of the Horse Pistols. They are Holy.

Get it properly appraised.

You may as well turn those revolvers into lamps or doorstops or something artistic. Maybe a foolish city near you is offering "buybacks" to waste taxpayer money. Take advantage of your government's stupidity and trade them for grocery coupons or whatever.

When you hand them over, sigh really heavily and say you were on the verge of going on a pot metal handgun mass murder spree because of what they had been saying to you.

You might have wounded someone's skin care regimen with those!

Okay, seeing more pics those wheelguns are RGs. Made in Germany and had the parts imported after the GCA of '68 banned their import. Assembly in the U.S. got around that, I believe. "Rohm" may have been the actual name of the manufacturer. I'm no expert on those.

BTW, I may make fun of them, but I would never want them to be restricted as long as they are reasonably safe to shoot. Here's an article by Mr. David Kopel:

Some folks can only afford cheap guns. Pricing guns above their means effectively creates a combination of class discrimination and gun control.

I have an H&R mid price model .22 revolver and they are not "top quality," but they work well and last if you take care of them. They do have heavy trigger pulls, but that's one of their price drawbacks.

As far as your RGs go, check to see if the hammer block safeties work. The RG .22 I examined in Arizona a few years back owned by two women had a music coil spring as the hammer block and it had peened into the cheap metal and no longer worked making the gun unsafe to keep loaded. These may be even older and more decrepit than that one! So be careful.

You do realize they have brass in them? Live ammo or MT cases? BE CAREFUL!!

BTW, don't shoot that M1911 until you have thoroughly cleaned out the grease. I'd get it appraised and checked for safety before that. That will be an extremely valuable piece.

The rifle is made in Germany. Puma or Erfurt come to mind, but who knows? Looks very decrepit and may be nonfunctional or unsafe. Same with the shotgun, which I could see no identifying marks whatsoever. Could be anything. Not my area and I'm not a collector.

My advice is to keep that Colt, as it is either merely worth good money, or could be extremely collectable. I've seen the short version of this book though:

Depends on serial number range and a few other things.

I was going to buy a WWI era 1911 years ago, planning on spending about $400. Then the prices went up in the next few years and now "shooters" are probably running around twice that. I don't know how the manufacturer "Springfield Armory" will affect value. Could be more or less than the Colts.

I just can't afford to "collect."

I have my Colt Series '70 .45 commercial model (my first handgun), so I'm reasonably happy.

Man Karl! Thanks for all that info!! I really know very little about guns period. The links Matt gave were very useful. I saw the little 22 revolvers were loaded. I am insanely careful with guns. My dad drilled it into me when I was very young. I've hunted squirrels, doves, rabbits, deer, raccoons, pheasant, and quail. Dad was very adamant about gun safety. I am going to sell all of the guns if I can. I guess I will try to go to a local smith and see if I can get them properly appraised.

Get them appraised, and then let me know what kind of pricing you are looking at, my father in law and my stepfather are both avid collectors, and might give you a great price! My stepfather is into WWI and WWII era weopons especially, MY FIL will buy anything that shoots, he has his own armory, basically, for when the world goes crazy

Dude, I just realized that that lanyard loop magazine alone is probably worth over $100, and that was years ago.

If that mag has a serial number matching the piece, watch out. Collecting heaven!

I would advise you not to sell it. If you do, and need quick money from someone who can't come close to paying you for what it's really worth, please keep me in mind.

But whatever you do, do NOT sell it to some idiot who wants to turn it into an IPSC race gun!!!!

If you do I'll have to resurrect John Moses Browning and Sgt. York and have them kill both of you for collectable firearms abuse and unforgivable crimes against history.

It just don't get no Holier than a John M. Browning designed World War One Semi-auto Horse Pistol.

The lady's husband died. She isn't desperate. I'm just selling off a bunch of tools and the guns. I will definitely hold out for whatever I find out that the gun is worth. It looks like the serial number is 119480. According to the link Matt posted...

That puts the production at Feb. 8, 1915 to May, 1918.

It does have colt markings and a springfield armory slide on it. The guy I work with ran the serial number and it was made in 1916, the clip is worth about 40 bucks on todays market but worth more if it has matching serial numbers with the gun. He said it is tough to tell a value without actually seeing it but from the pics he saw is worth somewhere around 4-5 hundred bucks.

I don't see ANY Colt markings.. I see the Springfield flaming bomb on the frame, and on the slide. I am betting it's a matching number Springfield...

Springfield did buy Savage parts, Colt parts, etc...

It is NOT a Colt. take that to the bank.

Where it says "Colt" on the slide, that is a patent ID, not a Colt markers...
