I talked to my buddy and I was mistaken about that mark being a colt mark...he said the same as you about colt on the slide. But the flaming bomb is not a Sprinfield marking....it is an ordinance mark that means it has been reworked by the armory. It is usually on just about any gun that has been reworked. He happens to have an Ithica that bears that same marking it is an Ithica 1911a1.

As I stated before, my stepdad is a gun collector, I have mentioned this to him, and he is very interested. Would you be willing to email me some detailed pics of everything? He is willing to wait for an appraisal, and will pay a fair price......
BTW, wifey says she did a bunch of promoting for your song on her myspace, why haven't you added her profile to your friends? The one she is speaking of is the BS PRESS, only spell it out.......Pretty cool blogs, getting more interest daily, and there is a group as well........Contact me for information about Festiva Madness!
Remember, FestYboy is inflatable , and Scitzz means crazy, YO!

NP, she just saw I was typing a response to you and said for me to ask ya. She loves that song, it is on all her profiles, too. As far as addy, I will PM you, my stepdad is very interested. I like the guy ok, but he has money to burn, and loves old guns, He has one rifle that was found with a bunch of others stored under a russian warehouse. When they tore the warehouse down, they found a cache of german guns! All packed in grease, and the wooden stocks were ruined, he bought one, and restored it, boy is it purty. I practically had drool coming through the internet when I emailed him about yours.....Contact me for information about Festiva Madness!

The Flaming bomb is indeed a US Ordnance mark, a proof, or inspection mark..... BUT the Springfields came from the factory with them, with the S in the middle I beleive... does the Ithaca have an S in the middle of the shell on the flaming bomb???.
SO, it is generally regarded as a Springfield mark ONLY on a 1911, with the S in the middle of the mark.....
that is why I refered to it as such. On other ordnance, yes, it can mean the gun was reworked... not so, or at least not necessarily on a 1911.
Don't mistake it.. this is a RARE Springfield 1911... only around 20K made... vs over half a million by Colt.
this is probably a WWI piece, shows light holster wear and traces of cosmoline. I would like to be able to look at it in person... as it might be a VERY VERY valuable piece... or maybe not so much... about that, your friend is correct..
Sorry about the confusion on the Flaming Bomb, but it is WELL known to 1911 collectors as a mark that was made on the piece when SPRINGFIELD manufactured the 1911... and I didn't want to complicate things...Last edited by quaddawg; 04-29-2008, 02:02 AM.Have had 6 Festys... and counting...
