So I've always had this problem with my jack... it didn't go high enough... it wouldn't even lift my festiva high enough for me to get under it... I usually ended up sticking 3-4 2x12 cutoffs under it to get my car high enough.. so today I decided to do something about it...

Jeez people. Who said anything about going under the car w/o stands. I know I mentioned it not going high enough for me to get under... ya... you have to jack the car up high enough to get the stands under. Except for a few parts the entire jack is made from 1/8" material... I did all my modifications with 1/4" material (with the exception of the two 1" square braces in the bottom.. those are 1/8" wall)89SX funtop! Fully loaded!

Stefan be careful!!!! This is very Important to understand. As you increase the length of the arm away from the hydraulic cylinder...you have increased the torque on the cylinder. What this means is that lesser of a load will drive the pressure up in the cylinder....possibly more than it's rated. Most hydraulic jacks have relief valves that open if the load is beyond the rating of the jack. You have just made it easier to set the relief valve off.Joe Lutz
