About a year I got a look at ladies Festiva at work. Hers was very rough. Breather missing off carb, brush painted body, trashed interior. I was smitten. It reminded me of my youth. I learned to drive in a 1960 Nash Metro, A compact car way ahead of its time. I finally found a Festy. They are few and far between in NE Florida. I found mine on Craigslist and drove a hundred miles to get it. Live Oak. It's a 1988 L with a 1993 GL? interior. The owners dad got bored and pulled the interior from the blown 93 into their 88 parts car. His wife had driven the 88 daily for a couple weeks but didn't like the 5 speed.Yes 5 speed, I understand Festy only had 4 speed but this guy was pretty handy and put Aspire trans in so wife could drive. Where do I start? It runs but doesn't idle. The clutch feels mushy. I bought a Haynes and an upholstery book. I will post pictures when my son shows me how. I'll shut up now and let some of you seasoned Festy owners talk. I forgot to read the rules, I hope I didn't talk too long.

You haven't talked too much to me, Handyman. Sounds like you have a start on your hands, if nothing else. One thing at a time. What is the worst componant on the car keeping you from driving it? Maybe the 5 speed is from the 93 too. 88&9 LX cars had them, and all MTX 90 up are 5 speeds. Did they get the seats mounted well on the rear center by the parking brake handle? 90 up used motorized seat belts, and the mounts at that location changed were the difference in seats. Idle could be lots of thins from worn engine, to this wondeful "blended" gasoline that they re "giving away" at the pumps right now. You may want to try bumping up the idle with the white adjusting knob at the rear/passenger side of the carb just to get things started till you nail down the problem. Mid 60's GMs were my cars for years myself. Cheap and plentiful for 500.00 or so then with nice interiors. Oops, letting my age out again.....

I hate computers. I just finish writing a half page, reach for my Haynes, bump the keyboard and it all disappears. To where I don't know. Got to work on my Festy today. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter. Forgot PVC filter. Mines missing.Sprayed carb cleaner down throat while my son attempted to keep it running. He doesn't drive yet. Just turned 15. Got it to idle. Got tired of getting filthy every time I reached under hood so we decided to clean engine with some stuff called "Formula 88". Sean picked it out at Discount because the car is an 88. Now it won't idle again. It was 95 in the shade today So I just gave up and went inside. While reading my Haynes I got a bright idea to adjust the clutch, couldn't get the switch loose,Broke the plunger out of it and somehow caused the brake lights to stay on. Pulled the battery cable and gave up before I burned the thing to the ground. Just kidding

88 and 89 LX cars came with 5 speeds. Yours seems to have the coveted power mirrors so its probably an LX.

It is possible that some LX parts, or L parts were interchanged between 2 cars. The front seats are L model seats. The LX seats have adjustable headrests on them, and the back seat has a split back so half the seat folds forward at a time. LX has a console in the center, and a tilt steering column too. Lots of little things ........
