  • Spider pic for Genevadirt

Went to wash my hands in the shop sink the other day and found I had a new pet. I checked on it yesterday (probably been two weeks ) and it wasnt looking so good. I filled up a soda cap with water and sit it in the sink and to my surprise the spider went right to it and drank. I also dropped in a disabled grasshopper which was dead when I checked on it this morning. Spidey looks good as new. Im going to put a board in the sink later so it can escape.

Eww... I saw one like that at the creek when I was at church camp 2 weeks ago. I'm surprised it couldn't crawl out of the sink. The way the darn spiders make webs on my Jeep and Festiva overnight when they sit out back, I'd figure they can get just about anywhere!

"shop sink" as in work sink at work is what I was thinking!

Actually, that's a Mustee sink, 20% calcium carbonate filled polypropylene, molded in Warren Ohio at Atlantis plastic for a number of years!

Genevadirt, I'll just have to meet you "off site" from now on!;-)

Cool, I thought it was Porcelain and made mainly of Kaolinite . Makes a good spider trap either way.

Porcelain is nicer, but poylpropylene pays my bills!

How about this little guy? he rode home on some wineberries (like raspberries) we picked. He is standing on a quarter. He was about a centimeter long.

This is his big cousin. he was maybe 2 1/2" long. they stab prey with their proboscis and suck out the juice. yummy!

I see more of these creepy crawlies than I care too, but frankly wasps and hornets are more of a blight to me than spiders. Carbon, I see those very bugs around my property all summer long. Not sure what they are but they seem harmless.

Side note, caring for and nurturing that spider back to health was for naught. I once tried to befriend a spider, watering and feeding it just like that. One day I went to bring it a waterbug snack and it was gone, with a note that said something to the effect of he was leaving for sunny Florida, thanks for the help, sucker. Ingrate.
