  • My new car

Bought it today for $600. The P.O. told me the throw out bearing is bad but the whinning happens when you let the clutch out so Im thinking its in the tranny. Runs good otherwise. Im looking for a tranny shop.

      Wow, nice find!
$600 and its clean inside and under the hood.
Didn't know the Escort came with DOHC is that a 2L(1989cc)?
Fix the tranny or clutch and I'll bet you could get $2K plus for that!

Cool. Looks real clean. You always find the cream of the crop. Hey don't for get to check the pilot bearing. I had Festy that made a noise when the clutch was released. Brand new clutch and TOB. Never got back in there. It never seemed to get worse or cause a prob.

From what I have found trannys for them are hard to find and expensive when you find one... I am bidding on an automatic that needs a tranny right now through the local insurance company so I have been looking into it a bit...

But I think you got a good deal and that is a clean looking car... I really like the looks of them and think how easy a BPT would be in there....

The P.O.(s) have put over $2000 in it in the past year until the tranny went. He bought a new Grand Prix. One of the repair bills says it a 1.9.

                    looks familiar!! Good score

I'd yank the engine/trany and check the pilot bearing... if thats good, and you don't want to re-build the trany yourself, you can look for a shop then. But if it is just a pilot bearing your set! What festy are you planing on putting it in?

Excellent find, man...that must be a '92 or newer...the spoiler is different than the '91 I had. Those 1.8 engines are just about bullet-proof. I gave mine to my nephew after 211,000 miles...best car, durability-wise, I've ever owned.
