  • Snowy Festy's in NC

I know that snow is no big deal to all you Northerner's but we don't get measurable snowfalls very often here in Raleigh. Four years ago, there was a half inch of snow that paralyzed this city. Of course there was a layer of ice under the snow which is why we have trouble. We get more sleet and freezing rain than snow here. Conditions have to be perfect for us to get snow so I had to go take a few pictures. (It rained before it turned to snow, so there is ice under this one too)

    About 6 am.

    After the sun came up:

    Now where is that driveway?

No pics of V8's car in the snow. He went to work last night before the snow started and I won't see him before tomorrow. He and his guys are working to clear the parking lots and decks at NC State so the students can get to class. Maybe he will check in later.

Eight years ago, we had a 20 inch snow. Boy that was beautiful! I measured this one a while ago and we are over 3 1/2 and counting at the house.

    Nice picks!
You, V8festiva, and Sam.1956 be careful!
We still have idiots on the roads here that haven't edited themselves from the gene pool yet when it snows and they are given many opportunities.
So I can imagine the ratio is higher there as you don't get snow very often.
I really love to see a 4x4 vehicle fly by me thinking they're invincible in the snow/ice only to see them in the ditch a little ways ahead.
I roll down my window and wave as I pass them!

I think we have four inches here in Clayton....was hoping for 27 inches like we had in 2000 or whenever it was!

"Madness1" did an admirable job getting me to work safely this morning in our Snow Event. Seems there are actually advantages to having an underpowered car AND front wheel drive! LOL! SERENDIPITY-- after yesterday's wire splice-athon at Dean & Barbara's, my rear defroster works! Wooo Hooo!

Focustiva: Because I was told it was was impossible to fit a Focus bumper on a Festiva.

As Those of us in the frozen north know all too well it would.

          Details of "wire splice-athon", please.

We seem to have ended up with about 5 inches here.
            It's only 28, but it's already melting.
How much did you end up with Steve?

DOH! Bone-head me forgot to get photos of the splice-a-thon! PU241 will likely eviscerate me with a ring-lug connector now! Auuugggghhhh!

Symptomatically, my tag lites & rear window defroster had Given Up The Ghost. Good fuse but no voltage at the socket = broken wire somewhere. Where the rear hatch hinges & the wires drop out into the body (top left side), the flexing over the years tends to break the wires. Of course I had to "finagle" some extra length out of the broken wires (there's some slack in the wire harness inside the hatch) so I could splice them back together. In yet another stroke of brilliance, I managed to leave my extensive kit of electrical splice connectors... AT HOME! (I was at V8Festiva & Smedley's when I was doing the wire splicing.) OK... just match up the wire colors on the loose ends with corresponding color wire on the other side. A slice-o pie.

Due to the absence of my stay-at-home connector kit, I was relegated to using the Tried & True Method of twisting the 2 ends of the stripped wires together & wrapping them thoroughly in black electrical tape. After that... voila! Once again I have rear tag lites AND rear window defroster! The defroster function came in mondo handy this morning with the snow.

                    You judge me too harshly!
I know a few alligator clips and a high voltage source applied to reproductive organs will do wonders to help you remember next time!

I like the twist wire pairs together and solder.
Then remember that the shrink tube wasn't put on before I soldered the wires together method.

Soldering wires is good. Of course if my solder and my handy little butane torch are still At Home... it's "DOH Time" once again! DOH!

Wow, you guys got more snow that we did here in WNC. I had about 2 inches or so, sun poked out and melted it off, but it is still snowing here. We'll see what the morning brings, I'll be at work all night. I met a carload of the gene pool sludge on my way in to work last night. Steep Mtn road, no guardrails, 5 kids in a subaru drifting around sharp curves. Glad I was in the Tundra and not the Festy, ABS saved my backside! Be careful out there!

Those "carloads of the gene pool sludge" are not limited to any particular area! LOL
We seem to have more than our share around here. Be careful getting home.

                              Steve,

gene pool sludge = like the guy that hit a trooper who was helping someone change a tire in Garner this afternoon.

Doesn't know how to drive and too stupid to realize it.
