I got up really early Saturday morning for my big trip this weekend. I had to be back home by 9:30 pm so I had to keep to the schedule. I also had 750 miles to drive round trip so there wasn't much for messing around. First stop was St Cloud, MN at Brenton's house to buy a carbed motor and an 5-speed tranny. Also picked up some other parts from him. Final destination was U-Pull-R-Parts in Rosemount, MN. This is about the closest self service yard to my house and it is about 350 miles away. I picked up a shifter, a center console, intermittent wiper, some switches, a 12" tire that looked almost new, some dome lights, some bolts I needed, a BP motor with mass air flow sensor. The computer had all ready been pulled from the escort but the price on the BP compared to around here was a deal I couldn't pass up.
Got everything loaded up in the festiva and started to drive home. I got about 5 miles from the junkyard and I was accelerating away from a stop light when I load bang and then all I hear is my motor running really loud and it has no power. I was like, "No, don't die on me here, I am 350 miles from home and the car is fully loaded!" Coasted into a grocery store parking lot and popped the hood. First checked the exhaust to make sure that hadn't come apart, then went to look at the block to see if I had blown a rod or something. Low and behold I find a spark plug wire just hanging there and a spark plug completely missing. There was nothing in the spark plug hole. I went back to the car flipped the seat forward, grabbed my tools, and removed one of the plugs from the carbed motor that was in the back of the festiva. The "new" plug threaded right into my head without a problem. My guardian angels were really watching over me on Saturday. Got home right at 9:30 right on time. The trip was almost perfect, I really couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Here is a picture of the festiva as it sits in the driveway. I haven't unloaded all the goodies yet.
