  • Tandem Bike and trailer!

Good times at the park saturday. My wife and I rode this vintage Vista tandem bike and towed our 2 girls along a stretch of flat pavement along the Roanoke river called the greenway. It runs along a long park. I got the bike a few years ago for $7. I finally pulled it out, put a lower geared mountain bike back wheel on it and took it out. It was a blast! All four of us riding along by the river powered by mommy and daddy!

Thats a nice set up. Cool bike. Do you get alot of compliments on it? My wife and I ride a vintage tandem as well. They are alot of fun indeed. People dig it. Fort Wayne is a three rivers town. MILES of greenway. Flat is the best. How does the trailer pull?

We got a couple of compliments on the first ride. Our neighbor saw us when I tested it out. She yelled out "ROCKIN!" 8) What make is yours? Post pics!! I'm going to get a longer chain, mount a derailer, mount a rear brake (took off the original wheel with a coaster brake), and get a set of lower gear so we can climb hills. You can't even feel that trailer! It's sweet! The bike is heavy due to the age. But man it's hip! I've had plans for years to give it an electric motor. I don't know though. It might take away it's charm.

...but you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

There's a little bike shop in Buzzards Bay, Mass. that rents those (and other vintage bikes) out to tourists. The place is right across from the Cape Cod Canal (the Canal Access Road is a beautiful place for a bike trip). In the Summer, you have to make reservations if you want one and the deposit is outrageous (upwards of $500.00).
