  • Black Widow!!

I uncovered a CB350 Twin engine to take some pics. Look at this little terror!

There are THREE in this shot!! I saw 4 total. I only killed 3. EEK! I usually let all wildlife live (unless I plan to eat it) but since my little ones play in the yard well....

And this micro orange fly was in the car not long ago. Tiny and weird!

Black Widows are nasty. We find them in our basement once or twice a year. But I've never seen more than one at a time.

I would have screamed like a 12 year old girl, doused the engine with gas and old news paper and lit that sucker up. I don't know if I'd have the rocks the smash one of those suckers. I fear few things. But spiders kick in the fight or flight impule everytime. Yikes.
        Going old school...

I feel the same way. I hate to think about the 2 or 3 that we eat per year in our sleep. nasty.

With just 3 posts by one individual I no longer want to visit VA. Realdolls, huge black windows, and gophers the size of racoons.

Well that realdoll freak is in Maine (best of craigslist). The "gopher" big enough to carry off your firstborn is actually a groundhog. But the black widows are in my back yard!

I wish I had taken pictures but we've had Copperheads, Black Widows and Brown Recluse all around our home. I love living in Alabama but I hate summertime due to these pests and the humidity. I Mtn Bike a good bit and last week after a ride these friends of mine in the video found this snake on the side of the trail. So now I can add Timber Rattlesnake to my list of things I hate. That side of the trail is about knee high when riding by.

A few years ago, when I was still a cable guy, I had to go wreck out some underground equipment for a road widening project. Basically, pull up cable boxes, and remove the equipment by cutting the cables off at the ground. This area is kind of locally infamous for black widows. So anyway, I wrecked out all the stuff, and tossed it into the back of my van, and head down the road. Get to my next stop, throw open the sliding door and there was a black widow all stretched out in the stuff I had just picked up. Big, with her legs all spread out, she was about the size of a half dollar. Went to the front of the van for my bee spray, back to the rear of the van, and she was gone. No idea where she went. Pulled the stuff I had picked up out on the ground and looked all through it. She was nowhere to be found. Sucks trying to drive and look over your shoulder at the same time.

Happy to say I haven't encountered one of those. I wonder if they dislike chestnuts like other spiders...I know I wouldn't sleep well without having something to detract those buggers...

Nice shots btw...I wouldn't have been spending time taking pictures, I can tell you that...haha

When I lived in az we had one living on our parts car a mazda 929s. I had to catch and make it do battle with a scorpion that I could catch in the field across the street was fun the black widow won and then i just dumped battery acid on it and watch it bubble. A few months back when I work at a local motorcycle shop we found 2 black widows in out shop right by one of the tech toolbox and we got one and killed the other and they had it as a shop mascot for almost 4 months before it died and the owner screamed like a little girl when he saw it and he isn't a small guy by far.

I watched a show on t.v. about people who have been bit by black widow spiders, and I think you can only get the anti venom once so be careful. One woman was so mentally disturbed by being bit that she would duct tape her pant legs closed before she left the house and would take a broom and a can of insect killer outside with her.

Man, with all of the updates like that, I'll never want to leave Saskatchewan. Our frigid winters kill off most of the creepy crawlies.
