Must've been nice to take the test in a small car! My driving-test car: '72 Oldsmobile 98.
Really big. Would not fit between the parallel park cones!

      • Loved the 1960 Pontiac flat top! A dentedFestiva still looks good! Oh, the Comet was nice too.

Technically not abandoned, but I'm counting them anyway. Probably only a matter of time before the crusher finds them.

Definitely abandoned. Would have gotten closer, but the Rotti had other ideas.

I have tried off and on for years to lay hands on this truck. Owner has been going to fix it up for, oh 15 years now.

One for the school bus fans on here.

Definitely not abandoned. But way to hot to pass up.

And finally, the ones that really kind of piss me off. Just because. You'll see.

And a gratuitous picture of Orphan Annie. Just because.

Yeah, my choices were the Chevette, or a big old ugly Chevy Pickup. The choice seemed obvious.

            • I remember when my mom got her 76 Burgandy Chevette..she couldn't figure out how to find reverse...I think there was a lockout lever on the shifter you pulled up on or something.

                    • Four-doors, such as that flattop (but any 4-door of any era really), are the future of collectable cars. They made a gazillion of them, but they were the first ones to be junked, so there really aren't many left relatively speaking. Everyone liked and kept the cars we now consider collectable (2-doors, convertibles, etc etc), but 4-doors? The prevailing attitude was "Meh, just junk it." The exceptions would be cars that were pricey to begin with (Packard, Cadillac, etc). Four door models of those are usually readily available. It's the low-price ones (Chevy, Pontiac etc), that met the crusher more than most.

Most price guides and collector auction houses (Barrett-Jackson, et al) have seen the prices rise in the last few years, and many parts companies are now making repro parts for them.
Cars like that one lying in the weeds are going to be sought out more than ever.
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

I was always a big fan of the 80's chevettes with the wrap-around tail lights. But I tell ya what, I wanted a carolina blue Ford Pinto with all glass hatch (like the yellow car in cujo)!

                        • Had stuff to get done today, so not much cruising. Found a couple. Thankfully, no more abandoned festies. Tho, I'm in negotiations to snag these two, plus a third at the same location but behind a burned out house. Wish me luck.

                          My future Festies??

These have definitely seen their better days.
