Finally got around to installing the Trick Flow intake elbow and MAC air intake system on my 04 Mustang. I cleaned the engine w/Simple Green before installing them. It made a noticeable difference in performance from about 3000 to 5500. Here are some before/after pics.

WOW! That's a great result! Probably one of the best examples of the use of simple green I've seen.

That intake looks sick as well

Here are a couple more pics of a comparison between the factory elbow and the Trick Flow. You can see the floor of the TF is raised about 3/4" and has a nice, smooth short turn radius into the intake manifold. The factory elbow has a sharp 90 degree corner and virtually no short turn radius. The throttle body opening in the TF measures 75mm and stays consistent in volume through the entire elbow. The factory one measures 65mm and chokes down considerably, plus it is full of casting lines and flash. I kept the factory 65MM throttle body since 65mm flows more than enough air for 281 CID @ 6000 rpm. The TF elbow was powder coated black, so I stripped it, semi-polished it and painted with VHT high heat clear engine paint. As you can see in the engine pics, the EGR gets hot enough it turned the clear coat milky-yellow around it but the rest of it still looks great.

I am jealous from the past. I wish I could've afforded a TrickFlow when I had my 5.0

It cost me $47. Brand new they're only around $100. I won it on ebay for $147 along with a throttle body. It was advertised as a 75mm, but when I got it all, the throttle body was actually a 70mm so the seller gave me a $100 refund. They're only worth 2-3 HP on a stock engine at best. If I ever add ported heads, cams, headers, etc., then it will be worth around 17 to 20 HP. The air intake system I got on eBay for $100 as well. It was supposed to have come off an 04 GT, but the chrome tube was about 1-1/2" too long. I think the guy just pieced it together from 2 different systems. I shortened the tube enough to allow me to use the factory air screen in front of the MAF meter, so everything worked out for the best.

I love the 4.6L Modular, but I wish I had an older 5.0L. Stroker kits, aftermarket heads, etc. are plentiful and cheaper. Plus, the older FOX bodies are lighter as well.

Those are both Windsors, right? Don't you have the older Lightning and a FOX?

Trick flow just released a new head (2 valve) for the 4.6/5.4. It flows a lot better than stock or even a ported stock head. I think they even had to move the intake valve to the other side of the cam to get a decent port design (or maybe to unshroud the vave). The 4 valve Mod heads flow pretty well, but those of us with the common SOHC motors suffer from a serious lack of head flow and displacement. Forced induction is our only hope. Meanwhile, a stock LS1 will eat our lunch!
