  • Ideal Society's BP/G25M-R swap pictures

ok heres where im posting up pictures for the oncoming weeks as i continue through the Escort GT BP motor and G25M-R Hydro Tranny swap.

so far ive gotten my entire EGT donor car and removed the engine/tranny assembly.

this is how my car looks, so far ive got aspire suspension, 15x6.5 rims and 195/50r15 cooper cobra g/t tires, every suspension piece has been bought new in the last year and replaced, ive upgraded seats from a pontiac fiero, added a tach cluster from an 89LX, 1500$ stereo system, added power mirros, got a spoiler from FMS, and so much more...

its saturday today and the junkyards are closed till monday so i cant get my capri axles to continue the swap... after that i will post more pics of the progress and verify once again that matt's bp page on cardomain is a wiring PITA saver for all lol...

i jsut hope that the local yards have a capri lol... if they dont this swap may take longer than thought (my festy is my daily driver, ill have to drive my Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 while its down... the thing gets like 12mpg... im selling it once i have a faster car  )

    till monday people! rock on!

Ummm my buddies VR-4 went 13.3 in the qtr (not sure about trap speed) w/minor modifications... I highly doubt the Festiva will be faster without some more serious modification to that BP... I'm sorry to ruin or be pessimistic about it but I just don't see the BP throwing down even mid 13's stock.. I was going to say posssssssibly a 14.0 with good conditions and very good driving... Either way the swap is looking good and good luck with it! -Kyle

considering my vr4 has one turbo going bad and doesnt always boost right, i hit a 15.01 when i took it to the track a few months ago lol...

once the festiva swap is done im gunna pull both VR4 turbos and get the greddy upgrade kit for it, its only like 1200$ and puts up a set of 13g's instead of the little 9b's ive got now... if i really had the money id go for a set of 20g's and do a custom setup... try to eat some supras

ive been looking into turbo manifolds for the escort motor but i dont know how much room there will be in there after the motor is in... if theres enough i may eventually boost it and get a custom manifold made... maybe only run like 8psi?

im not going crazy extreme... at least not yet

            ...

What are your plans for fuel/ignition control for the engine when you install the turbo? You just can't drop a turbo on a engine and expect the ECU to tune and feed the engine properly.
Fast, fun and good gas mileage. 91' Festiva(RIP) and 96' Aspire(RIP). The website is no more.

i know this... i do have a twin turbo sports car after all and im not exactly the average daddy buys my cars 19 year old with a honda... sure the ecu covers everything on a manufactured turbo equipped vehicle... but i do realize a standard ecu doesnt have the capacity to do all of this when it isnt from the factory, it simply isnt programmed for those kinds of a/f curves...

you really shouldnt assume every person who wants to turbocharge their vehicle is an idiot... i know there will need to be an afc (preferrably an A'PEXi unit, personal preference...) with a 2 bar MAP sensor and a good fmu... upgraded injectors (about 450cc for what im shooting for to be safe... dont want to run lean and blow a hole in a piston afterall), and hell if i have the money once im out of college for automotive engineering (<---doesnt this say i should know something about cars?) i might just order up a bpt front clip and get the ecu and everything just to make life a little easier...

sure, i cant calculate out my own compressor maps yet...(but i can read and understand them) but i do know something about turbo systems. its much like this very swap, its not jsut a drop it in and go deal... theres wiring, hardware to modify, and things to be custom made (not a problem ive been working in a steel shop for 2 years).

sure, i might only be 19, but sport compacts are a passion of mine... and im rather happy with the fact ive never had a wrench other than my own come within 300 feet of my vehicles... (okay i had an alignment done once after i did my aspire brakes and i was too lazy to do it myself... and it was a crappy cold rainy day to boot! cut me some slack!)

bought, repaired, and driven by nobody but myself... 93 3000GT VR4 5spd AWD Twin Turbo... on 19's...

honestly though... i think i like my festiva better... im trying to sell the 3kgt... anyone have $8K? it books for just a little over $10,000...

the festiva was my first favorite car and its been that way since i was 15... i dont think anything will ever take its place, its just such a fun to drive car and theres nothing like having a sweet tiva like some of the guys on this board... fred, simon, dj, matt and the others who have made these cars shine like they should have from the factory... they put the effort into making it more than JUST a festiva... even if its not worth the money, cuz thats not what its about... its about doing something most people wouldnt and being a little different and enjoying it for that reason...

people call me crazy for dropping all the money and time and effort onto acar i paid 150$ for (i just bought the capri axles today from autozone rebuilt for twice what i paid for my car... $300! i guess it would have helped if i would have had cores...), but i love my little car... ok sorry had to get that out of my system lol...

got my egt header today! i also ordered adjustable fidanza cam gears and maybe next month i will see about getting some nice reground miata cams or something...

got my mounts all tacked up ive just gotta pull em out and then reweld all the way around them... other than that ive got the hydraulic fittings for my hardlines on the cluch master (broke the rubber hose so i had to redo some stuff) and then figure out just where in the hell im gunna mount a radiator up lol...

Looks like your coming along fine.

Just to let you know, the paint on those headers will burn off immediately. I ended up blasting mine and repainted them with POR high temp header paint.

yeah i noticed the paint was kind of shabby... thanks for the mention on that i did buy some hi-temp header paint a while back for my fiero i had bought headers for but never used it... i guess i will have to take them to work to get it blasted and then repaint them up a bit better...

got my capri halfshaft modified and am inside uploading pics of it right now... i used the EGT block mount and used a piece of 1/4x3 bar stock to weld to the back of the capri piece... then i just cut off the capri mount and bam! a nice custom piece that has all 3 holes to mount to the block!

next up once i go to town and get some washers and bolts for the hydro master cyl for the clutch, i should be able to post up some pics of that process as well
