Now, if I can just get her to look this shiny dry...

Think I'm gonna go to DMV (an Arena thread will likely be soon to follow) this week and let the new one wear Batstiva's badge til she's ready for it.

Get you some Black Magic and then give the car a good wax and buff. Itll look pretty close to that when youre done.
Cant wait to hear about the trip to the DMV! Definately glad we dont have to put up with some of the crap you guys up North do when it comes to registering a vehicle.

The fun part is going to be telling them the tag that was supposed to be on my 88L is going on my 89L, and then going back when Batstiva is done, and transferring the tag back to the 88L.

Plus, we've got one lady in my local DMV who's job I think it is to try and make everything anyone needs to do in there just as freaking difficult as she can possibly make it.

Yep definately sounds like fun. Why does EVERY DMV office have someone like that. Is there a company out there that trains 1 employee in each DMV nationwaide to be a PITA?
When its finished and time to register Crusher that should prove interesting, I dont have a title nor can I get one without a WHOLE lotta hassle. Needless to say Im working on a law bending solution.

I saw a product on clearance in Menard's last week (a local discount hardware store chain). I think it was "Black Box" made by Turtle Wax and it was specifically made for rejuvenating black paint. It was a 3 step process and had a polishing compound that had dye in it. Came with special buffing pads, applicators... the whole 9 yards.
I actually read a thread on the forums at Meguires Car Care website about it. Some people that tried it said it worked really well and others said it didn't do much. May want to give it a try. I think you can find it at AutoZone as well.

Personally, I would recommend Meguire's Ultimate Compound with a DA buffer (or by hand), followed by some Meguire's Tech wax and some Ultimate Detailer.

And......use Mother's Back to Black (you can find it at Walmart) for the black vinyl bumpers. I used it on the 88LX that I just got and it made the bumpers look like new again.

Festyfanatic, just went back and looked at the pics of your 88LX, don't know what the bumpers looked like before, but they do look very nice now. Kind of sold me on what you used to shine 'em up. :thumbleft:

I will make it easy for you: If you are not too far from Pittsburgh, when I get back to PA next month I can drive over and do a complete exterior detail for you. (I used to own a detail shop). I work cheap, buy me a six pack Black can be hard, but your paint doesn't look too bad at all.
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

So, you heading back to PA for good? I know you've been wanting out of Cali.
I'm not too worried about it at the moment, still leaning towards the rustoleum paint job. Especially since I already have everything. And the hood is pretty rough Doesn't really show in the pics, but it ain't pretty up close. Just gotta wait on the painting until it's not my dd anymore.

Yes, it seems like everything is finally falling into place this time; I've planned to go home a few times but it's never worked out. I have a friend who is going to rent a nice apartment to me- $400 month, utilities included and no security deposit, plus I've had phone interviews with a business but have to have a face-to-face interview, but it looks like I would be hired.
Just making some small repairs to the Festy for a cross-country trip. Keep your fingers crossed!
