Hello everyone!
Well, I wanted to share some pics from my trip for you. Sorry the pics are a bit big; no time right now to reduce the size.
First two pics are the old Twin Arrows Trading Post, AZ. Has been closed for many years, but there are signs there that seem to indicate that they want to restore the place. the big arrows in the ground are a Rt.66 landmark.
twin arrows
Up the road a few more miles is the old Two Guns Trading post. This was a HUGE place, a few acres. Back in the 40's and 50's, they had mountain lions and a small zoo, side shows, etc. Not much left but some crumbling remains.
This is an abandoned Rt.66 bridge at Two Guns. This was on the old alignment of 66, but now it's in the middle of nowhere; no remains of the road even lead up to it anymore.
A still-operating "trading post":
This is the Meteor Crater Observatory tower. Years ago this was used to view the crater, but was abandoned long ago:
A very cool '50's style sign in Grants:
This is the Blue Swallow motel in Tucumcari, NM. Staying here was great, I can imagine how the travelers of the 40's felt when they stayed here. Each room is as it was back then, including Western Electric dial telephones! And each room has it's own garage:
This is the leaning water tower in Groom, TX. It was actually built this way.
The famous Cadillac Ranch, in TX. I almost missed it, since it's off in the distance a bit. I had to get off I-40 and backtrack on old 66 to get to it:
More pics tomorrow,
Mark
