Around here, for every hunter I see with a deer, there are like 5 more deer splattered on the side of the road.

Some of these are truly splattered too. Like they ate a bomb and it went off.

I think the hunters scare them out of the woods onto the highways.

I swear, I make the best venison stew. I need to get some more venison though I ate it rather quickly.

That is the rut making the deer move. Deer travel more in this season in the search of some "action". If there wasn't people to thin out the population there would be even more deer being hit on the road and dying from sickness/starvation. Our ancestors killed off most of the natural predators, so I guess its up to us to keep the herd in check. At least they taste good

We had to start having limited hunting days in the local state park here because the deer population was excessive. Way too many were starving because of the over population. Much more humane to hunt them and enjoy them. As a result of the hunts we now have a very healthy and smaller population.

I didn't grow up in a hunting family (we fished a lot though) so have never been hunting but choose not too now because I know I would love it. I have too many expensive hobbies as it is.

Lots of people around here HATE hunters. Me, if you're not going to eat it, I say why bother? But I do think shooting them is a lot better than having them run out onto the highway. Not only are they dangerous to hit, but being hit is sometimes far worse for them than being shot.

Nothing sadder than seeing one on the side of the road slowly dying from horrific injuries.

That's the way my family was too. But about 7 or 8 years ago, my youngest brother talked me into taking hunter's safety with him so we could go hunting and I've enjoyed hunting ever since. Even my daughter enjoys it.

Im not a hunter but Im not stupid either. Hunting is the only real way to control the deer population.
Nice looking doe. Whatd it dress out at?

                        vegetarian

Do you know the origin of the word vegetarian?

It's an old Indian word for "lousy hunter".

Hunting is a great way to control animal populations. It's amazing all the things that the state game and fish dept. has to consider when they give out licenses. Sometimes though I think it's just a wild guess. They ran out of antelope tags for this area, but there are more antelope around than I've ever seen before.

Thanks. I never weighed it. I just dropped it off at the processor. I do know it felt like 500lbs when my dad and I hauled it back up out of the hole.
