Hey guys, I figured it's been a while since I've shown updated pictures of my car. However, I moved and am now living alone in an appartment, so I can't really borrow my ex-room mate's camera, so I don't have much right now. But today a classmate took some photos, and I realized my car was in 'em, I'll start with those, and put some more eventually. However it sucks that my car isn't done yet; the rear fenders are still primered, the lower body is still on bare gravel guard, and it's on winter mode (color-matched Aspire wheels, narrow snow tires, and wide rally-style mud flaps, which I cut from a crazy carpet...Much cheaper than buying generic mud flaps); it's usually rolling on Miata daisy wheels with wider tires, and I also remove the mud flaps for summer. But on the bright side, I finally got around to finishing my round headlight conversion. I had 'em installed almost a year ago, but I still needed to finish trimming the Jetta clear covers and installing them. They really were a PITA; the clear plastic kept on cracking when trying to cut or drill it. I'm working on building a vacuum table, so that I can mold my own covers after the Festiva's headlight lenses. I also finished repairing all the rust, and patching the rust holes in the rockers and lower rear fenders, as well as the lower door portions. So here you go, enjoy!

no....i have bad a.d.d. let me know if you do the vacuum forming. i was thinking of trying that but i dont know if the plastic would be thick enough and be able to hold up to the temps of hid's i really dont thing there should be to much heat because there in a projector beam but i guess i would just have to experment

I think plexiglass could hold up to heat pretty well, from the videos I've seen, the guys heat it up in an oven at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes before putting it on the vacuum table and it's still smooth and clear. Now, I don't know how hot HID's get, but you would need serious heat from them to make the plastic melt...And if they actually get hot enough to melt plexiglass, screw that; I'll stay with incandescent bulbs!!!The left lane? Hehe that's not a general electric guy, it's me getting some stuff from my car at school!!! For close-up pics, you can check out the how-to I did last year: http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ound+headlight
And some pictures from last winter, but without the clear covers:

Im not sure I understand how they could melt the plastic. They dont draw as much power so I wouldnt think theyd get that hot. Unless they were improperly installed. Doug(Packrat427) has them on his car and I think the only complaint was how bright they are.Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

I had Doug follow me after one meet at night for a good while and they are noticeable but they didn't bother me any.
If his car ain't burnt up by now, I'd say it was a successful, safe mod.

the festiva is a all glass and metal construction so putting stock hid's in a festiva socket is no worry concerning heat. what i wanted to do was make a plastic lens, which there may be a little of a issue but im also using projectors so i dont think its going to matterLast edited by Hot_Wheels; 11-21-2009, 07:14 PM.
