When my wife and I were living in Seneca, SC about 4 years ago we got a pretty bad ice storm mixed with snowfall just before Christmas, and my 94 Aspire 5-speed had no problems getting anywhere! We still went out looking for a tree! The car pretty much just slid across the top of the snow. It even climbed over small trees that had fallen in the road, and off a shoulder to get around one it couldn't climb. I swear, if it had a winch on the front end, it'd be close to impossible to get it stuck.

I hope that I will not get bitten by this. Not immediately but after my mustang will be sold I have no problem with that.

Dirt you better buy some electric gloves. Something about holding on to those snow thrower handles just freezes your hands in no time.

              Viper

If I won the jackpot, I'd build a snowblower with a Viper engine. All the power would go into throwing the snow about one city block in either direction. Shouldn't this be under the what would you do with a million$ thread?

those are nice snowblowers. We have one aswell. My dad forgot to put oil in it one year and it seized up. When it seized the connecting rod detonated...if they ever break they are easy to rebuild, just remember to put oil in it.

Sure it's an old thread but nice to see someone pick up and appreciate a golden oldie. Betcha GenevaDirt is still using it. That Ariens is from the late 60s-early 70s when steel used in the blower and chassis was nearly twice as thick as it is now. These are sturdy and simple machines and most all parts are still readily available. Ariens of Wisconsin proudly stands behind it's products. When the time comes (Tecumseh stopped making engines in 08 and also moved their operations off shore) you can adapt a different engine (Briggs or even a Honda) on to the machine. I bartered for my neighbour's 1972 Ariens 20 years ago and have never regretted it. Rather than toy with Festys last fall I took a month out to entirely disassemble and clean up my old machine. New bushings/bearings throughout and a complete carb rebuild on the original Tecumseh 7 horse. Just like there are Festy nuts there is a website out there devoted to identifying and restoring old Ariens "Sno-Throws".

Gotta try again. Looks to be an 8 hp engine on there and belt clutch arrangement rather than the pre-1973 (thereabouts) mechanical lever clutch. I have noticed that the sheet steel on those next generation machines was reduced by about 1/64, which doesn't seem like much but did reduce the overall rigidity of the blower units.
