  • Winter fun

Didnt make it to work today. My drive was drifted over. Wind chill -20. Suppose to get colder the next couple of days. The picture below was taken about two hours after I had cleared the drive with the tractor. It just closes right back up.

Makes me glad I live in the mountains. Not enough open fields around here to drift like that.

Did you highlight your front tag in the second pic, or (knowing Fresh) do you have the ultra rare Festiva lighted license plate holder??

Doesn't look like the snow fence is working well.

You should just park a bunch of parts festivas along the side of that road! It'll work better than that snow fence!

Good observation, its working too well. Didnt expect and wouldnt have counted on snow after snow after snow to keep pushing the protected area into the drive. You're right its not helping now . Been plowing it back all day to keep the area clean.

Actually the snow fence is working perfectly. The placement of the snow fence is the problem. In this instance the snow fence is creating more of a problem than it is helping. The snow fence is causing the big drifts in the driveway because it is too close to the driveway. Here is a picture displaying proper snow fence installation.

Yes and no. The snow fence will protect an area equal to ten times the height of the fence. My fence is four foot tall so it will protect forty feet. If you place it 40' away it will offer no protection. Also the fence will drop 80 % of the snow in the first 25 % of the protected area or in my case the first ten feet. My fence in 15' from the side of the road. In normal cases it works well as you can see from the picture below. The problem this time is that we got snow after snow after snow with no melting in between. The drifts grew to the road and are now are acting as the snow fence and dropping 80% of the snow on my drive. This is an unusual snow fall for us. In a more normal senerio the fence is the correct distance from the road.

It is hard to predict how much snow your going to get. We got about 2 feet on Christmas and my plow truck is having a hard time with that much snow. With everything I have read on snow fences and the presentations I have attended I will have to disagree about it not being effective after 40 feet.

Fresh, I don't envy the snow drifting. But I do envy your balmy weather. We've only had a few small inches of snow and not a lot of wind, but we've been a little on the cold side.

                              Recent low's here are:
