^^ We think we figured out the root cause of his engine failure...but I'd better let Cody tell you about it...LOL :toothy5:

I will say that due to the circumstances...I have no faith in Cody's engine

Cody is trying to work a deal on a B8 in Gborro so I think the plan is we're gonna try to get everything in one trip. I told Cody that if he gets the B8, we can stop by on the way to your place and pick it up. Plus now we need 2 B3's since we found the issues with Brad's. One to rebuild for his car and I still want a core to rebuild for mine.

I can deliver whatever you need...just let me know if I need to bring a bigger truck!

I'll give you a shout later today

Yeah, basically stupidity on my part...the whole forgetting to put in antifreeze instead of just water. Fan and everthing else was working fine, I just screwed up on this one

^ maybe you "forgot" just put water in, so that way you'd have a reason for an engine swap

You could be right....I just wanted this engine to die so I could put a little "beast" into the hulk

            Mission accomplished!!! LOL J/K Cody

Actually...I almost hate to say it...but in the interest of research...I'm kinda hoping your B3 block is trashed :toothy9:

I'd like to get a section of one of the cylinder walls to measure the thickness

Yeah I feel the same way. He will give up his heart in the name of science, but we will put a bigger, better one in!

                  UPDATE:

After doing the math it's actually $50 cheaper to rebuild a B6! Therefore, we will be picking up two b6's tomorrow and one B8. One 1st gen B8 (87 323) for Brad's car, a 2nd gen B6 (92 MX-3) for mine, and the B8 (92 Protege) is for the Hulkster.

I'll post up some pics after we get them

^^ We're planning on making the Carolina mini meet and FM4.

Ironically, we won't be making the one in Lincolton even though it's only 15 minutes away. We always go to the beach the week of the 4th.

Went and picked up the motors today. Here's the pics:

                        Truckload O' Mazda:

                        Here's Cody's B8:

                        Here's my 2nd gen B6:

I forgot to get a closeup of Brad's 1st gen B6 but y'all know it looks just like the B3. He got the cleanest motor out of the bunch though. Looks like someone really took care of it. Here's a pic of it on the back of the truck. It's the clean one on the left LOL

Also, the place we got them from has a bunch of B6's, B8's, B8D's, and BP's and the guy ships. If anyone is looking for a motor contact me or Sensei and we can try to get you a good price.

                            You guys are slippin'!

I'm kinda surprised no one caught this and brought it to my attention!

When we went and picked up these motors yesterday something about the B6 that I got for my car looked different but I couldn't put my finger on it till just a little while ago.

Look at the pic and tell me what stands out (other than the fact it's extremely dirty). It's hard to see in the pic but you'll know it when you see it

Brad and Cody can't reply cause I've already given them the answer

We tore down the B6 for Brad's car yesterday. It was a little gunked up but nothing too bad. Looks like they had the oil changed and then wrecked the car the motor was in. The oil was still honey brown when we drained it. The cylinders look great other than a little surface rust where the engine had been sitting. There's no ridge from wear and a nice hone should clean them right up. The main and rod bearings looked BRAND NEW. The only bad things we found were a small amount of coked up oil in the bottom of the pan, the water jackets were pretty rusty/cruddy, and the exhaust valve guides are a little worn.

Next step: We're going to get the parts hot tanked and the valve guides replaced and start ordering gaskets, bearings, etc.

PS: I'll be doing the valve job on the head so if anyone has a manual with the valve face and seat angles for a B6 8V that would be a HUGE help.
