Are there any metal pros that can give me advice on how to insert these metal tubes one inside the other, tube 1 into tube 2. I am hoping there is an easy method, I don't have a torch or welder.

I realize the tubes look like different sizes, but they aren't, camera illusion.

I need them to fit inside each other about 4 inches I think, are you saying to make a shunt to connect them? If I can't figure out how to fit inside that is probably what I will try.

You could get a tail pipe expander.

But, IMO, you should not put that rack on your car. It doesn't look good.

I think he wants to use a futon base for a roof rack. Pu241 are you a structural engineer?

Yeah, it is for a roof rack. it can hold the weight of three grown people twice as big as it is now, so it should be okay, but we will see. Plus, I am going to enamel paint it to match the car so hopefully it won't rust either.

No, too many years as a plastic development engineer, seen way too many plastic applications where customers want a cheap plastic to do the work of a metal or engineering resin, without redesigning the part or tool to compensate.
So I've learned to ask about the application before I get too deep into an a project that requires more strength than the materials my company was handling.

Duct Tape, Just joking. The pipe expander would work best. Other than that you are quite limited unless you want to redneck it.
