  • Went car hunting today

Went out today, looking to find a 4 cylinder car for a figure 8 race (demo car).
Came across this 1988 Toyota Tercel 2 door hatch. Auto with 240 KM. No rust underneath as it was sprayed every year. It ran good and the brakes were good even though it had been sitting in his backyard for over a year. Jump started the battery and topped up the gas and it fired right up. The owners are 2 very nice retired people, and they want $200 bucks for it. Seems like a good deal, just got to find a place to put it.:p

Then on the same road, i came across this baby. I couldn't believe it when i saw it. I nice looking mazda 323 (With spoiler) sitting up on a bunch of old scrap metal. I pulled over and looked at it. The guy yelled out the window, "You can have it, if you can get it off there. I'll sign the ownership over to you." He said his son brought it there 5 years ago and the son was going to take it away but he never did, so the car just sat there. Then the owner of the house was putting on addition to his house he had one of the guys with a back-ho scoop the car up through the windows and plop it down on this old derelict trailer. Really to bad because the car was in pretty good shape until they did that. The interior was surprisingly in good shape considering the windows had been open all winter. I would love to take this free car but i have no way of getting it off this trailer. Heres some pictures of it.

If anyone sees any valuable parts on the mazda, or wants anything i might be able to go back and get the part(s) for them. It was about 30 min drive from my house.

That Mazda looks to good to be just sitting on top of that junk. What a shame.

Shoot, for a free car it'd be worth it to rent a backhoe or a forklift for a day. Just tell the delivery driver to wait a moment and he can load it right back up on his truck

Heck yeah on the $200 toyota, what a shame on the 323.... some people I just dont understand. Seems like you could part it out some and still get 95% of the scrap value from it. I bet those mud flaps will fit on a festiva. Hook a chain on that thing and yank it off of there.

Yeah, i was thinking i could just hook a chain and rip it off, but i didnt get a good picture of how it was sitting on the trailer. Before the car was put on the trailer i guess he had bunch of old scrap metal sitting on it, so if i just pulled the car off it would rip the car in half. + in front of the trailer is a big pile of stones/mud. It would be a heck of a job, but the price is right. There was only one good mud flap and thats the picture of it. The the fronts were ripped off and the other back one was all messed up because i piece of scrap metal and pushed it up and bent it and cracked it. (you can see it in the 6th pic)

Anyone know roughly what this could be worth for scrap? (the 323)

So as i was browsing google street view, i stumble upon a couple festivas fairly close to home. I figured i go check it out, even though the pictures were from last summer.

The first one wasnt there. But heres what it looked like on street view

I don't think i was missing to much. It looks in really rough shape. The front was all smashed in too...

The second one i saw: (Only like two blocks away from the other one)

It looked like it had been sitting for a really long time It was a Festiva L (not sure what options L's came with). It also had the nice ford centre caps. But that was just about the only thing good about it. It was really rotten, one of the mirrors was smashed off. It was an automatic and had 170 000 km on it.

I didn't talk to the owner. It didnt appear anyone was home and i wasn't planning on spending much time in the area i was in because it was a "dirty" part of the town. Lots of homeless people there and there was a homeless shelter just across the street.

Also i thought id share some pics of the "Swift" hauling my dirt bike for a little weekend fun.

And im just putting on my summer rims/tires (Note: I bought a real hydraulic jack now, and im hopefully never using that little jack again).

                      Rust situation

And heres a picture i shot today with the rims on

Heck, I'd pay a tow truck driver to get the car off of there!!! You'd better snatch that up before someone else does!

Id love to do a GT swap, but im not really mechanically inclined enough to pull something like that off, or have the right equipment. Since my car is automatic:angry7: ... It would be really nice to have the GT engine and 5 speed. I'm probably better of just buying another swift, with those options. I think would be a shame to put a new engine in it because it only has 69 000 kms on it. If a nice rust free, 5 speed Festiva came along, I'd probably sell the swift.
