  • mmmmm... Eye candy. That taste good.

Here is a pic of the valve cover. It has a textured surface like on many factory jdm motors, Or like on the mazda speed turbo miata. I put the cover in the oven, and baked it @550 degrees. Than applied vht red crinkle paint. I baked it on.

Here is a close up pic of the texture.

Looks great. I am starting to detail my engine very soon, maybe today. Are you going to be running without the timing cover? I've been back and forth on whether to run with or without it.

How did you get the lettering to show up silver on the valve cover? Did you tape it off or sand off the paint after you shot it?

Also, what did you do to the aluminum head? Wire wheel it?

For some reason In pic 4 that dimension was a bit tighter on my car perhaps the tire size difference is more that it sounds or the offset is a bit different. Looks great though.

I hope you didn't bake that in your own oven...

You won't want to be baking anything that you are going eat in there anytime soon if you did...

I am going to be running without timeing cover, But I am buying adjustable cam gears, I'm looking at a red set of "OBX" cam gears. Price is good on them. The block was also painted w/black crinkle paint. I still think the motor looks like crap right now. It's dirty. The head I wire wheeled, But I am not happy with the results, I'm exploring other methods. I have to have the oil pan bead blasted, Intake powder coated, Exhaust manifold, and hot side of turbo ceramic coated. (color will be a natural "cast" finish) so on and so forth. I have a TON of work to do. But I thought I'd snap a couple of shots.

I used the oven in my house.......What?

Here is how I did it. I Heated the bare valve cover to 550 degrees. pulled it out and painted it immediately, while the valve cover was still hot. Than I let it cool naturally. So I never had it in the oven w/paint. And I've eaten a pizza from the oven since, taste fine.

So did you know that Toyo has new replacements for the T1-S? They are T1-R they just came out this year been in Europe for last 6+ months. Hence, why I have not bought any and waited this long for tires for my rims.
Deeper grooves and larger block on outer tread. Better silicon compound as well. But the old T1-s are still killer. Those are 195/40 15 correct?
I think that you should paint or rubber rocker guard the inner fender wells(Black)? Will help show off you Calipers(Red) and pretty disks/wheels.

That head if you want it really nice, you should have sanded it smooth and polished it. It would have looked kick ass over wire brush. Just my 2 cents. The cover looks good - the ford symbol!

Your car will be one of the best on the board, if you take away my ride it will be the best over all when done.

So are you have the bay totally clean no emissions etc, hide wires and clean it up so its just basics with pretty paint? That look is my favorite and has a good appeal. Whats next for the GTR? Did you do the rear suspension and brakes yet?

                  Thanks

Most of my stuff is on my site. I would say I am 1/4 the way into my project, lots of work to do! Fenderwells will definatly be painted, I'm not even close to paint yet. I'm glad you guys like it, I try to post pics, because I enjoy seeing pics of everyon elses festiva's. I hope it will be sweet when I'm done. Also I bought all 4 toyo t1's for $333.33 to my door. I thought that was decent. $71 a tire plus shipping.

One more question about the timing cover, are you leaving off the bottom pieces also? I jut put a new crank seal and timing belt on mine and I will be leaving the top plastic piece and back plate off but may put on the bottom pieces to cover up the idler pulley and such. Here is a tip for aligning the timing gears without the back plate. I used a piece of poster board an made a template from the backing plate with the timing marks on it and I removed it when I was done.

Seeing your pics really motivated me to get busy on my motor. I've been putting it off for a while and doing easier things. Here is my valve cover, I painted it last night and sanded off the paint on the raised letters tonight.

for some reason the pic is not loading?

Keeping the bottom on, so no rocks can break the belt. Thanks for the tip on the gears. Your valve cover pic is broken. I looked on your site, and it looks awesome!! Your car rocks!

Here are a couple more of mine.

I don't have the rear bumper set on there yet. The rest of my body kit is just sitting on there. Not bolted to anything. Just to get a look. Also no motor, so the front is sitting a little high.
