These are SnowBirds from a turn of the century home.Quite expensive.I have about 50 of them.Any quick way to remove the rust ?

I've never heard of these... what is their function?

I don't know how to remove the rust, but I would strongly suggest something that stops the rust from continuing. (I don't know the name of the compound, but it's supposed to change the chemistry so it stops rust in it's tracks).

They keep snow from building up and coming off in one big mess. They are pretty common here on the older roofs.A lot of new roofs have them,too..These are almost 100yrs old.New ones cost between 10-40 each !

Bead blasting would clean the surface with out eroding any more from the already badly pitted surface.
But don't know what equipment you have access to.
But some anti-corrosion surface treatment is badly in order on these or they will be no more in a few more years.

Definitely media blasting... you have so many that any other way would take forever.

media blasting folowed by powdercoating. They will still be heavily pitted though...

If you wanted to do an anternative way. Por-15 would be the do-it-yourself method.

Electrolysis would be the fastest method (you can do them all at the same time)vbut, because they are old, they may be worth more money the way they are now.

Use household white vinegar.Very mild.Soak them until the look fairly clean and then apply a coat of POR15(available on ebay or online). It will stop the rust,is permanent and leave a paintable surface. It is also available in several finish colors.Good luck!!

You could have them dipped at a shop that has tanks of acid for just that. The place that built my bike has stripping tanks.

                        metal laundry

I took my rear hatch + a big box of stuff to Technostrip. A company that derusts and strips down to bare metal.

Sandblasting is tough because the parts are so intricate.

Nowadays, we use aluminum snow guards from companies such as Sieger.

Bronze are the best, but the most expensive.
