Alright you can't just install coil overs and not give us some pics . I'm getting ready to do my suspension on my BPT car and would like to see a few pics of your setup. Could you snap a shot of a front and rear for us?

Is this like what you used

Thanks, also what struts are you using with your setup. How is the ride. Is it too harsh?

I was thinking about telling you that. The ride is bad!
The rear did not dropped much,The reason for me doing it,I will say it again,Was cause of the wheels not fitting. So the rear dropped like an inch more than what it was.I cutted the spring perch,The coilovers sit very nice though.I'm running kyb gr-2's.I tried to see if it gained any stabilitie and it did.I have access to a smaller spring for the rear,But i'm not going to do it,I'm going to leave it like that.I might buy some teins in the future.

You know those slammed Civics you see bouncing around the road that look like they are bucking back and forth over ever bump? Those cars are using those cheap EBay coil overs... I had a set of those generic coil overs on my car for a short period of time, and they were more of a hindrance then a help. The FMS springs I had on before were better. The only way to run those coil overs is to get a strut that it valved for a stiffer spring... ask FMS if anything they sell will work with a stiffer spring.

                  PS KYB GR2s don't work.

Koni Sports are best, but you doing custom work and there not cheap. You know Ground control does custom applications of cheap coilovers.
I would go with a rate of 4kg front 3 kg rear.

                    Thanks

Konis for a Mk3 or Mk2 Golf/Jetta would be easily adaptable to work with the Festiva. The only problem is that you don't have much stroke in the front strut.

Its all about the short stroke anyways. Thats why I said 4kgF/3kgR you maybe move like 1 inch up and down with that rate of spring.

                        Thanks

But when you use the VW struts, you have to compress them almost all the way down because the VW has more suspension travel and a different strut body and rod length. I'm only working with 2.5" of strut length in the front and have yet to bottom the car out.

I wonder if any Kia stuff works on the Festivas... I wonder if there is even any Kia performance stuff available... if there were a aftermarket shock like a Koni available for a Rio or something, I'm sure it would fit right onto the Festiva.

Koni inserts might work maybe for the 323 gtx etc?

                            Thanks

I was looking over an '01 Rio in the 'yard the other day.

Rear suspension has separate shock and spring. The spring is narrower at the bottom. Totally different rear suspension, with Panhard rod.

Front might work. Same design as Festiva/Aspire. Top of strut is a two bolt mount. Size looks right.

Hell, the knuckle could even be the same. I know the rotor and tie rod end is the same as (ATX) Aspire. I suspect the caliper is also the same, and it's possible the control arm is the same as an Aspire (though perhaps unlikely).

Be aware that in late '02 there were suspension changes accompanying the switch from the 1.5 to the 1.6 engines. Also the Rio Cinco (wagon) has some different parts.

There are aftermarket lowering springs for the Rio. Check ebay "Kia Rio." One company is Intrax, IIRC.

i contacted ground control and they were able to make me a "coil over" kit with 300 in/lb spring in the front and 200 in the rear. As fred will point out, no they do not match the dampening and are not set up for the weight distribution. But they told me that some one bought the same kit a week or two earlier and called back and said it worked great.

I have kyb gr2s now and they are better than the stock's or "Monroe's" but they are not a super performance or really a performance shock at all. I just did not feel like dumping another 600$ minimum for koni shocks. 418$ was enough and i am sure that the ground controls with the kybs will be a nice stiff ride that might even do good for my autocross's. I guess i will have to see.

Besides i was told by a little birdie that these coil overs are just a substitution so mextivas rear end doesnt sit 3 inchs higher than his front end.
