  • What replaced the gray festiva

    Hi guys and gals,

Originally I had planned on either buying a Austin Mini project car or putting the money from the sale of the gray festiva into my house but plans always change with me. The mini's I were finding were too much money or too far away, or something else, and the wife insisted I keep the money to use towards my car project since I sold my other car.

A number of things fell into place and I landed with this in my lap. 70k miles on the body, and 18k on the engine, 1994 z24 Cavalier L67 GM 3800 engine swap that was professionally installed in 99-2000. My friend owned the car since before the swap and he always babies his cars so I know it was a good deal for what I paid.

1st gear is useless, but I plan on babying the car. It rides really nice, has a great sounding exhaust, and is very clean on the inside. I have a couple minor spots of rust to fix on the door molding area and inside the drivers side door jamb, plus a few minor fixes (steering is loose, leak somewhere around the window when it rains, leak in the trunk) but it should be a good car, and the wife can handle this one. Car has a slightly smaller pulley installed and custom tune.

Now I dont really care for cavaliers, GM's, 3800's, etc. But that is not something you see every day.

I didnt even know that swap was possible.

Auto or is there a 5 speed that bolts to the 3800SC?

Call me crazy, but I liked the Beretta GT's far better than the Cavaliers. Either way, a supercharged 3800 in a car that size is rockin' hard. Great deal, man. My friend is into Malibus and Monte Carlos with the 3800s in them. This will blow his mind.

Why'd you have to go and post that? This morning I was randomly out of nowhere missing my '92 Sumbird that I only had for about a month... and then I come home and see this. Just a stock four banger, but still a neat little car (for a GM lol). Looks good, and also, I'd like to go on the record I love the wheels. We were looking a similar set when we were thinking about keeping the wife's Fiero (before she got too pregnant to enjoy climbing in and out of it )
                      No festiva for me ATM...

Try one in the back of a Fiero.

Nice "J" body. I've always wanted to do that swap to a Buick Century. A 12 second "Granny mobile" would be fun to roam the streets in.

Did you know that GM produced the Cavalier for the Japanese market? It was sold by Toyota and was known as the "Toyota Cavalier".

Neat! I had no idea that could be done either. I used to want a Z24, without the body stuff on it. Tried to get a plain Cavalier with the V6, but no go. Then I heard you could get the V6 in the wagon, but they said I'd have to have an automatic!

I just couldn't win! So no new car for me!

                            That is really neat though.

Check and see if the 5-speeds out of the 3800 Grand Prix's will work? I am not sure if one out of a 3300 Grand Am might not fit either. I can ask the guy I know in VA that did that swap if he knows what all interchanges.
