  • Replacing Carpet and Padding

Here's a link to photos of Festiva Interior stripped and then the padding and carpet replaced.

Before I did this, the carpet and padding had gotten wet and mildewed and the entire car smelled horrible.
The padding I used is just like the carpet padding that you put under carpet in your house only thinner.
If you get the thicker pad and split it you come out cheaper. It doesn't have any sealer on the back so you need to make
sure you don't have holes in your floorboard that will let water get in. (Or you can get the padding they sell for automotive
use and pay a lot more.) I took a hose, soap and water and a scrub brush to the old carpet, cleaning and rinsing several times
and used a wet/dry vac to suck out all the water I could, then set it out in the sun to dry. I also replaced all the seats
with pretty good seats from a junk yard car that I used upholstery cleaner on. Also replaced the right door panel.
After all this the car looked and smelled great.

Looks good, and not too difficult either. I've been planning on adding some sound deadening or something to reduce the "tin-can" feel, and figure I'll throw in a new carpet as well.
      BP, Aspire brakes, stock trans.

It's one that I bought used, did a little work on and then my son drove it a couple years. Someone broke his rear window out at his apartment to steal his stereo allowing rain to pour in. That's how everything got wet. He drove it a couple weeks longer with plastic on it, but the water had done it's damage (seats and floor were in pretty bad shape before this anyway). In the meantime I had already bought Junkyard Save and put a new engine in it for my daily driver. That how I ended up giving my son (SFestiva) my original 1990 (Blue Beast) that I had bought new (He later moved to Louisville, Ky with it). Now the seats and floor in it are getting in pretty bad shape, so he's getting some replacement seats for it and plans to do this job to it. (I'm taking some carpet padding that I have here up to Louisville for him on the first leg of our 3,500 mile road trip in Old Yeller next Friday.

I sold this 1991 after the rear window replacement and interior refurbish on ebay about 4 years ago to a young fellow that lived near Tupelo, Missiissippi. He drove all the way to Charleston and towed it back. Sent me an email a week or so after he go home saying how much he liked it.

Wow, nice post. Good info to have. Gotta get carpet in mine before too much longer. BTW, cool paint scheme on 'Old Yeller'. Never seen that scheme on another Festiva before. Cool!

Thanks..it came new like that. However, an expert on decals here said it was a dealer installed options.
We're heading out on a 3,500 mile road trip in Old Yeller in the morning.
If all goes well, I will add a tread of our trip with links to pictures on the blog.
