  • Giant moth (6" wingspan) at work today!

Saw this moth out in front of Papa Johns right before I got off work. Paul looked it up and its called a Cecropia. Posting a vid up in the vid section too, go look at it!!!

And a luna moth from yesterday at my other job... very beautiful, though not nearly as large at the Cecropia.

    No festiva for me ATM...

my 2 yr old is petrified of moths. He said he would catch it then smash it. We talked him into putting it into a jar.

    BTW those things are awesome.

They call them brown widows in Florida as well. But yeah, Brown Recluse. They suck; we are surrounded by them at my house.

A couple of years ago my house was taken over by Brown Recluse spiders. I fought and fought to get rid of them. I finally did it by using insect bombs. Twice. I set off 12 bombs each time and sprayed insect killer after that the first time, and they came back the next year. So the 2nd time I sprayed before, set off the 12 bombs the next day, and sprayed again the day after. FINALLY got rid of them, been Recluse free for 4 years. I have been biten several times by those nasty things and it is not good! I have scars left from the bites.

I remember once at a motel I had a ground-floor unit, and it started raining heavily. All the spiders from the grass outside came into the ground-floor rooms. They were big too! We changed to an upstairs room, on the theory that the spiders would be too lazy to take the steps, and couldn't reach (or push)the elevator buttons.

I thought a brown recluse bite was pretty much a death sentence. Not so much huh?

Next time try a .22LR. More entertaining.

It depends on the victim, I went into eneimic shock from a brown recluse and was hospitalized for three days. Some just get a bad infection, Guess I'm highly allergic to thier venom

My mom has been bit so many times by brown recluses that she is almost immune to it now.

Brown recluse bite if not properly treated will make most people loose a limb at the very least. My old boss got bit by one the other day and has to got the doc for a shot everyday for a week, longer if its still not better after a week.

No, they ARE Brown Widows in Fl. Same as Black Widows;not as aggrissive;just Brown. There are NO Brown Recluses in FL.! Iv'e been a State Certified Pest Control Operator for 25yrs. There are also Red Widows, but not in FL. You will not die for the Recluse venom, its rots the tissue. If you die is from a secoudary infection. The bite is Nasty, causes a a ulser like wound. You can die from the Widows venom.
