  • Musttstiva, Luxstiva, and Twinstiva pics...

Andrew was over Saturday and took a few pictures, then he posted them in Photobucket for me. So now I shall try and conjure them up in this thread. Don't be surprised if there are no pictures!

Here's my first Festiva, the Mutt:

That's a Custom Paint Job on the hood in case you didn't notice. Also note the tie-dye seat covers. Awesome. I was originally going to try to replicate the tie-dye look on the hood, but I liked the wispy sky-like pattern so much I kept it.

Here's her best side, including the custom blue door:

The shadow is unfortunate, but that is an Aspire steelie in that corner, which makes it look even darker. The rest of the wheels are the VW alloys. The Mutt was my first major project: the Aspire suspension conversion. No other mods other than the stripped cargo area.

And now her hindquarters. Note the couple of paint spots on the hatch. I went a bit wild with the spray paint while she was sitting without suspension in my parents' drive a few years ago:

That's Andrew's Aspire in the alley.

Next post will be Luxstiva (which you've seen a glimpse of in the first pic).

I can see why you call it the mutt - but still looks good. That's awesome design you have on the hood.. kinda looks like waves on the ocean.

I bought Luxstiva almost three years ago in August, I think. She was dirty on the inside and pretty clean on the outside. IIRC, she had 170K miles or so. Now she's getting ready to turn over, but with a '94 Mazda B6 engine that had 82K miles on it. This is my engine swap car.

Lux has auto and air and is my "luxury Festiva." Here ya go:

      Another angle:

Note the cargo cover, which I made out of cheap gray hardware store carpet, wood, and staples. I actually have a nice looking factory cover that I got with my third Festiva that I'll fit in some day.

      Okay, here's the B6 installed:

I intend to redo & improve the engine job along with installing a low miles Aspire transaxle sometime this spring or summer. Right now with the B3 computer, I figure I have about 75 hp. Mileage is not so great. Worst was 24.5mpg and best was 27.5mpg.

Gotta schedule the dyno runs when I get the dough. Soon. Then I'll install the proper ECM.

Finally, a month or so ago there was a local '92L advertised here at FF.COM, and I ended up buying it:

I call her, "Twinstiva." You should be able to guess why.

Twin has just under 70K miles and doesn't run yet. I just picked up a new used fuel pump and gas tank for her. That's my beautiful garage on the left. The biggest reason I finally left that hellhole of a condo (lived there seventeen years!) was to be able to work on my little babies.

Andrew's Aspire is again in the background.

Twin is a 5 speed and I plan on a B6 swap for her sometime in the next year or two. I hope to actually (re)build a B6 motor, and to end up with around 110 hp, as opposed to Lux's moderate 90 to 95 hp when I finish with her. After this swap, "Twinstiva" will be painted dark blue (my favorite color for a car) and become "Speedstiva." My goal is to maximize a regular octane B6 performance and handling package in a "GT" type two (or three) seater.

One more for the road, showing two of mine and Andrew's car:

That's it for now. Soon I should be starting my "ATX B6 swap thread," though it may take a few weeks to accomplish. (Andrew has my first picture CD of the swap to put on Photobucket for me.)

Many many thanks to Andrew for the pics and web help here!

Yep, I'm really proud of my custom hood!

My plans for Mutt are converting her to FI and maybe dropping in a cheap early model B6 out of the local cheapyard (~ $150--they pull it). If I do, I might just drop it in from the top rather than remove the MTX. Clutch should be good for a few more years.

The Mutt is my counterculture, antiestablishment, "go to hell yup yup yuppies," "art car." Hell, I'm not even a hippie, just an "angry future dead white male."

I have much blood, sweat and tears in her, but she suffers from a bad carb. The suspension swap was merely her first resurrection. Her next life is due soon.

I wish I'd have bought twinstiva. I talked to the guy and decided it was too far to risk. I wasn't sure if it was in as nice shape as he claimed. Looks like you got a good deal on it.

Yep, a whopping $190. That was all I could afford at the time and he was desperate to get it out of his drive.

I paid $50 for a gas tank and $12 for a fuel pump. If I'm lucky it'll be another fifty dollars (for a new fuel filter and who knows what else) and a few hours at the most to get her running.

She'll need new tires (dry rot) but that's taken care of: the alloys on Lux will be available after her suspension swap.

The original gas tank does look awful rusted inside. I may try cleaning it up for Mutt.

They sure look pretty to me. But then, I'm a guy who has had at least two festiva in the garage for the past 15 years. Tried to buy one in Linc. Neb yesterday, 1991gl with 102,000 on it . The contact at Durst Motors said they had sold it that AM. Guess everybody wants one now!

I went to a junkyard a few days ago to scout for stuff. Didn't find a whole lot in that yard save for a few Mazdas.

I went to U Wrench It (or whatever it's called now--I never can remember!) yesterday and spent THREE HOURS there. Got me two extra nice '88 Tracer seats, a set of '97 Aspire springs with front struts, a right side Festy mirror (the first one I've ever found) and a few odds 'n ends.

The Tracer seats are a nice grey velour. The driver's side has the usual adjustable seat back, but also has full tilt features for the seat BOTTOM! And when I got it home, I found it also had a three position adjustable lumbar support!

It'll take some work, but I think I can get them in.

I'M OFFICIALLY PRONOUNCING IT JUNKYARD SEASON IN CENTRAL OHIO!

Time to get my lazy ass moving. I shovelled a lot of gravel yesterday too, for my new gravel drive in my backyard.

I'm pulling these pics up from the past for some more motivation in getting Twinstiva running, my garage organized, and my new computer set up so I can post more pics!!

                    Indulge me, people! 8)

Lux is in the garage now getting ready for a new ATX starter. Twinstiva is outside filled with parts. On my new, not quite finished gravel driveway.

I had locked my key in the Mutt last fall, so I need to order a slim jim so I have an "other than key" option.

After I get Lux starting reliably I'll begin fixing Twin's fuel system and see if she starts.

Taking pics, but I need to set up my new computer and get WOW service and learn to use it all.
