In molding something like a dash, and most parts in general, stresses are often times molded in unintentionally. Most of the time these stresses relax over time and do not cause any issues. However, something like a dash, and especially ones as old as ours are, those stresses can cause material failure. Mold stress is particularly high in corners, like this area of our dash. So it shouldn't be surprising that cracking will occur. I'm surprised that the opposite side of the dash hasn't shown similar cracking. But that's one of those peculiar things about plastic molding, what you expect isn't always what happens.

Mine has the exact same crack in the same spotas well. In fact, it was there when I bought it with 30K miles.....although it was 10yrs old at the time.
