  • My Aqua Festiva

If you followed the project to get Dean's last car purchase brought up from Florida to Raleigh in this thread:

you may have wondered what happened to it.

Well, this weekend, we finally started to get her up and running again.
kartracer46, Jay, has been telling me for a while that he was going to come over one weekend and we were going to swap the engine and this weekend we finally got there. Jeremy, Britstiva, also came over and pitched in. My brother in law, JR, and his family came down (to help with another problem) so it turned into a mini meet. Here's a few pictures.

Every time Jay stuck his head under the car, he kept saying: Man this is one clean car. LOL

The old engine was in pieces

    cleaned up engine bay

new engine getting ready to go in

firing it up - it runs! Dean would have been smiling

now got to clean her up

all the paint was chalky like the roof here

she's not done yet, but we ran out of polish and time
this is the end of the first weekend.

The engine is in, up and running and the clean up work on the body has started. She needs new bumpers and interior pieces. I have a grill that Dean grabbed on one of his junkyard adventures. Over the next couple of weeks, we should be able to get it going.

Thanks to everyone who has helped on the project. Jay and Jeremy. Greg, Steve and Jerry for the help in Florida and transporting the car. Barb

The "new" B3 was the one that got pulled out of the BP swap car and has been sitting around in the garage. It needed a few things from sitting so long, but we found most everything in my parts collection and hopefully we have all that figured out.

I've been calling the car Aquastiva since Jerry Lee called her that last year. Every time Jay was under the car this weekend he would go "Man, I can't believe how clean this car is!" I told him if he kept it up that she would get a big head and I'd have to start calling her Aquadiva instead!

I know what he means, it's so nice to work on a car that isn't so rusty that your afaid to unbolt anything because you may well snap it off, causing much pain and suffering.
Its almost a pleasure to work on a clean car.
